Memorial Service Honors M Harrill at Family Picnic

The second memorial birthday picnic for Mr. Martin Harrill was held Sunday at Mrs. Charles A. Ford’s home. About 100 relatives and guests from North and South Carolina attended. A portrait of Mr. Harrill and his wife sat on the front porch for all to see as Rev. Ayers led prayers and speakers shared memories.

B L Stockholders Hold Interesting Meeting at City Hall

A largely attended meeting of Forest City Building and Loan Association stockholders was held at City Hall on Wednesday March 12. New officers elected RL Reinhardt as resident W L Brown as secretary treasurer G F Brad and W S Moss as vice presidents John T Poole H Francis Little and J A Dennis named directors with Dennis resigning after two years. By law amendment kept seven directors. Secretary's report praised last year’s six percent earnings and success.

Stock streams of county with bass to stock private lakes

Fordton March 18 Mr Wardin county game and forest den went to Marion Wednesday and returned with a large number to stock a fishing pool on his farm north Rutherfordton. For several farms in the county Mr Hardin states individuals may secure bass for private lakes by applying to S Hargett of Raleigh.

Rutherford County Club To Meet Next Friday

Ellenboro celebrates Frank Byers birthday and recalls Ellenboro’s early days. Byers, a prominent local contractor and citizen, helped build the Seaboard depot and Piedmont House and aided the Seaboard line project. The Rutherford County Club plans a March meeting at Spindale House with a 1 00 pm luncheon and Walter Haynes as speaker.

Banking Trustee In Charge Monday

Courier readers seek authentic banking news and learn that Charles C Blanton will not act as liquidating agent for the closed banks. An agent from eastern state banking circles is said to be chosen to handle bank affairs next Monday and will likely operate from Union Trust Co quarters. The bank examiner’s pencil copy remains with the firm and is not yet filed.

Reynolds to Speak Tuesday at Rutherfordton Courthouse

Rutherfordton reports Hon. Robert R. Reynolds an Asheville attorney and noted orator will address a 7:30 p m meeting of the Merchants' Protective League of Rutherford County at the courthouse next Tuesday March 25 open to the public. Reynolds attacks chain stores and has drawn large crowds statewide.

The Pirate's Daughter at the High School

The pirate themed operetta The Pirate's Daughter will be staged at the high school auditorium on Friday night March 28. Seventy five students perform with nineteen in the major cast. Proceeds fund Girl's and Boys' Glee Club expenses for the state contest in Gastonia.

Child's Arm Broken In Swing Accident

Sillus Michalove, son of Mr and Mrs Jack Michalove, fractured his right arm last Sunday when a swing turned with him. He fell to the floor while swinging with a cousin. Series Mature March 22 and Mortgage Payout Details

A notice announcing the maturity of the 38th series on March 22. It states cancellation of thirteen thousand eight hundred dollars in mortgages and a payment of four thousand dollars to members. Eligible certificate holders are instructed to present certificates at Forest City Building & Loan Association.

Revival Services at Chimney Rock Presbyterian Church

A series of revival services will be held at the local Presbyterian church from Sunday, March 30, through April 6, with nightly preaching by Rev. I. S. McElroy Jr., formerly a missionary to Japan. Morning prayer at ten, gospel singing, and cor dial attendance are planned. Chimney Rock fire losses total about 60,000 as nine buildings burned Sunday night into Monday, with insurance only around 6,000.

Gas Thief Caught After Hour-Long Chase in Gaffney

George Bennick of Forest City North Carolina was captured after a lengthy pursuit through Gaffney South Carolina. He faced three charges stealing gasoline reckless driving and possessing contraband liquor and received fines totaling 6450 or 90 days in the roads.

EE Moss Reinhardt Recovering At Hospital

Lee Moss Reinhardt who was seriously injured when struck by a car in front of the high school building on March 6 is improving at Rutherford Hospital. He is the son of Mr and Mrs R L Reinhardt and one of Forest City's finest young lads. Hundreds of friends across the county follow his progress and are gratified he is now out of danger and on the road to recovery. He is expected to return home next Sunday.
