Lake Lure dam sale nets 544,500 in foreclosure bid
Rutherfordton June 3 representatives of the first mortgage holder of the Carolina Mountain Power Company bid in Lake Lure dam power plant and equipment transmission lines to Turner Shoals on Green River and local distribution system at foreclosure for 544,500. The bond issue was 550,000 and sale subject to Federal Court approval. Two bidders qualified for Chimney Rock Mountains Inc. The power plant generates 50,000 to 70,000 in annual current. Dam completed 1920 first water flowed 1927. The sale noted future changes at Chimney Rock with impact on the resort.
