City Decorated for the Holidays Lights Brighten Square

City electrical workers completed stringing fase lights along the square surrounding five blocks. Trees topped with stars adorn each end while merchants display colored bulbs boosting the shopping district. Mayor Davis Chief Price and B B Green oversaw the setup with a large Christmas tree on Florence Mills tower to be lit this week.

Bethel Baptist Church Dedicated at Ellenboro

Ellenboro December 16 dedicatory services marked the completion of Bethel Baptist Church built at about 16000 dollars. Rex BLM Hamrick offered prayer, Greenberry Pruett read a history tracing growth from 19 to 455 members, and the sermon was given by Rev B M Hamrick with further talks by Rev D Harvill and Rev ID Harri.

A heavy snowstorm covered the region, with depth reaching up to eighteen inches in parts. The county, likely Rutherton, experiences one of its deepest winters in a century as late Tuesday into Wednesday snowfall disrupted mail and travel and caused traffic delays.

Legislators to Speak at Rutherford County Club Meeting

Spindale December meeting of the Rutherford County Club will be at Spindale House Friday December 19 at 1 00 pm. State Senator elect Peyton McSwain of Shelby will present Proposed Legislation for Rutherford County and invite discussion. Senator-elect W K McLean and Coffield of Ellenboro have been invited to join the discussion. A round table following speeches is planned. Pension Checks Totaling 11412 50 For Rutherfordton Veterans

Checks totaling 11412.50 were sent to Rutherfordton for distribution to War Between the States veterans and their widows. One hundred three individuals will draw their annual pensions this week, including 45 checks of 182.50 to veterans, 55 checks of 50.00 to widows, and 3 checks of 150.00 to widows. Some will not be distributed due to deaths since June. Pensioners may collect at the clerk of court office in Rutherfordton.
