Family Welfare Association Reorganized in City Hall

The Family Welfare Association held a reorganization meeting in City Hall called by Chas Z Flack. Talks praised nourishing undernourished children in schools. Kiwanis had aided 12 children last year and now supports 28. The Woman's Club, rest City, sells Christ Sval seals with 75 cents of each dollar kept locally for nourishment funds. Officers elected include M P Bodie president and Mrs AW Falvey vice president. A fundraising drive to collect funds and goods is planned for Thursday Dec 18 with district captains named. A follow up meeting set for Friday Dec 2 at 7:30 pm at City Hall.

Western North Carolina Conference organized

A Marion meeting formed the Western North Carolina Conference to sponsor and develop athletics as physical education for many. Participating schools include Lenoir Morgan ton Marion North Carolina School for the Deaf North Wilkesboro Cliffside and Rutherfordton. A loving cup will be awarded to the winner based on conference game percentage.

National Bank Directors Hold Enthusiastic Meet

Directors of the First National Bank met Tuesday afternoon in the new bank. Reports showed rapid progress since opening October 10 with daily new deposits and strong public support. Over $130,000 in deposits, low overhead, and a promising record lead officials to say the bank will be a great factor in county development.

Christmas Seal Aims to Aid Undernourished Children

The Christmas Seal program seeks relief for hungry and needy families, noting that undernourishment stems from lack of knowledge and food shortage. North Carolina Tuberculosis Association coordinates local efforts to reach over 10,000 children this school year, with a broad network of captains and workers in business and residential districts assisting.

Rutherford County appoints C C Moore tax supervisor

Charles C. Moore of Forest City was Wednesday named Rutherford County tax supervisor. He will study in Raleigh for three days, start work early next year, and oversee reassessment of all county real estate with three assistants per township. Also noted are reelections of C S Royster as superintendent, Garrett Edwards as traffic officer, and M R Reed as county accountant. Mrs Nancy Cogdell, 86, died near Walls Church after a long illness. funeral at Walls Baptist Church with interment in Walls Cemetery.

P T A Plans December Meeting and Welfare Donation

The P T A will hold its regular monthly meeting December 17 at 3 30 in the Forest City elementary auditorium. The teachers social for Thursday evening has been indefinitely postponed. Owing to heavy welfare department calls the organization votes to use funds to aid the less fortunate.

Auto License Tags On Sale Monday In Rutherfordton

December sale of automobile license tags organized by Hunter Motor Company will be processed at Rutherfordton City Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. daily except Sunday and Christmas. Tags may be affixed to vehicles starting December 15.

Fire Destroys Lovelace Home Near Caroleen

In Caroleen near Caroleen North Carolina on a Thursday morning Prof. A. C. Lovelace and wife saw their newly built residence burn. Loss estimated at 6500 dollars with neighbors saving some furniture. Cause unknown though suspected faulty wiring or rodents. A large quantity of canned fruit also perished. Lovelace insurance partially covers his loss.

At the thirtieth annual meeting of the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association in Raleigh last Thursday and Friday M D H Sutton of Forest City was named third vice president for 1931 Dr Joseph C Blount of Raleigh elected President and D of Wake Forest first vice The event opened in the Virginia Carroll ballroom of the Sir Walter Hotel with remarks by retiring president Horace Kephart and Bryson City author. Clarence Griffin of Rutherford County attended as a former official of the association.

Circle No 1 of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. W R Chambers with Mrs. Chambers and Mrs P A McGregor as hostesses. The devotional was conducted by Mrs. Rowland and an inspiring session followed.

Rev John Thomas Sisk of Washington DC will be at Missionary Methodist Church Sunday afternoon December 14 at 2 00 o'clock with a male quartet to render a musical program. Depositors of Closed Banks to Meet Friday

Notice to Rutherford County depositors of defunct banks. After multiple bank closures on February 4, depositor meetings were held and indictments issued for banking law violations. A special term of court may be called. a Friday meeting on December 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the courthouse aims to aid the solicitor and seek liquidator updates. All interested are urged to attend.
