Legionnaires Hold Good Meeting at Cliffside Post
The Fred Williams Post No. 75 American Legion held a largely attended meeting in the Haynes Memorial building with a lively program arranged by Clyde Edwards B Goode and L G Garvin. Rutherfordton members planned the January 5 1931 meeting in the county seat. The Boiling Springs colored male quartet sang and a Cliffside high school student play Silent Movies was performed led by Lou Jenkin. Superintendent B P Caldwell praised ex service men noting in 1925 less than 1 percent of WWI veterans were jailed or in prison. Oyster and smokes followed served by Legionnaires wives and high school teachers. R J Reybacco Co Winston-Salem donated 1000 Camel cigarettes for the gathering. Speakers included F S Hall R E Price Joe Erwin S P Dunagan F W Jarvis and J R James. Each gave a brief talk introducing themselves and their WWI outfit.

Mrs J B Long longtime Forest City resident died at home Monday night aged 66 after brief illness. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with Dr W A Ayers and several ministers officiating. Interment in Cool Springs cemetery. Survived by husband J B Long and children Mrs J M Burkholder Ottilie Kate Long Otto Long Mrs Robert Hair, two sons Harold and J B Long, one daughter Osteen, sisters Katie Flack Mattie Bowman Noonie Bridges and three grandchildren. Thieves Enter Spindale Store In Sunday Night Break In
In Spindale on Dec 2 a burglary occurred at Mr. L. G. Blanton's store. Thieves shattered the rear door glass to gain entry and robbed the shop of dry goods and grocery items. The cash register was also broken open.

Will Decorate Streets With Cedar and Evergreen Trees

In Union Mills R-2 on December 1 a baby girl named Sara Louise was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Whisnant. Both mother and child are doing well. Their son Miles has been ill and not improving quickly.
