Newburgh Ruins Burst Into Flames

Fire on Colden Street in Newburgh broke into flames at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Firemen quickly doused the blaze, and Fire Chief William Nixon said such blazes were expected and may recur in the coming days.

Death of Chester Fire Captain Patrick J Golden

Patrick J Golden of Woodhaven New York died Thursday after a brief pneumonia illness. He led Greenpoint Brooklyn fire department for years and married Chester native Mary McGrath. He is survived by his widow and two daughters Kitty and Gladys.

Tony Bruno Convicted in Orange County Roadhouse Case

A Dutchess County jury in Poughkeepsie convicted Anthony Micieli alias Tony Bruno of maintaining a disreputable house near Howells in Orange County. He was sentenced by Justice A. Tompkins to one year in Westchester penitentiary and fined $250, or two years more if unpaid. Abduction charges remain. Two Middletown youths implicated Bruno’s roadhouse, with testimony tying Jennie Green Mattison to the case.

Harriman Girl Injures Skull In Sleighing Accident

Anna Belle Heights and her brother lost control of a sleigh in Harriman and hit a parked truck owned by Arthur Dally. Anna Belle suffered a slight skull fracture and facial injuries, while another brother Vincent was unhurt. The report also notes local obituaries, club notices, and a school dinner event.

Car Leaves Road Hits Tree Near Fair Oaks

The Chevrolet of Thomas Howlings of Aoosa Gap went off the Bloomingburg Middletown highway at noon Saturday near The Willows. It struck a telephone pole and a tree and was badly wrecked. Howlings was extracted by Paul Rouis of Bloomingburg and others, then towed to Bloomingburg, with no injuries reported.
