Nine Newburgh buildings burn in cold midnight fire
Fire destroyed nine structures on Colden and South Water streets in Newburgh, with the largest a six story building owned by Walter B. Martin. Dozens of families fled with only possessions. no deaths, but frostbitten firefighters and extensive water damage reported. Burned blocks included Te'ter tailor shop A P store Shapiro Bros Hill Dry Cold Refrigerating Co Masten Feed Co and Carter's restaurant. two hotels escaped damage.

State police captured him after a chase, sentencing him to 30 days in Goshen jail for disorderly conduct and detaining him for grand jury action on gun possession.

New York Man Arrested Near Monticello for Vagrancy
