Rev Weathersby Leads Revival at Fairview Church

Pastor A B Weathersby of Floresville Baptist Church conducts a revival this week at Fairview Baptist Church with one evening service daily. Crowds show strong interest and praise the sermons. Two services planned Sunday, 11 a.m. and 8:15 p.m., with a large expected turnout and open invitation to Fairview residents.

Taft Ranch Jersey Farm Manager Praises Floresville Cattle

B H Cummins, manager of Taft Ranch Jersey Farm, visited Woresville en route to Sie anc lastore to inspect Jersey cattle and praised the flourishing herds in Floresville and nearby communities. He credited Wilson County Fair improvements and a strong dairying program for a bright future, noting local dairymen’ s focus on pure bred stock for foundation herds.

First Volunteer Cotton Bale Reported In Valley Texas

In San Benito on June 16 1928 officials with the Valley Gin Company announced the purported first bale of volunteer cotton in Houston is from last years stubble rather than 1928 crop. A second such bale was ginned for T J Irwin. The bale harvested from stubble sold for 101.40 dollars. The Houston bale was raised by W D Curtis of San Juan and ginned at a Valley Gin Company plant in San Juan.

S. M. U. Star Mann Visits Floresville Monday Morning

S. M. U. football star Gerald P. Mann, famed quarterback for Dallas based SMU, visited Floresville last Monday morning to recruit local high school prospects for a Mann Campbell Football School in San Antonio. The project was scrapped for insufficient enrollment. Mann spoke at the county agent office, praised by locals as a model athlete and student from SMU.

Pleasonton Watermelons Fuel Packed Truck Traffic

Pleasonton reports forty five carloads of watermelons shipped in the last 24 hours with dozens of trucks arriving hourly from surrounding territory. Much of this year’s crop is marketed through San Antonio and shipped by land. Crop conditions are fair with some cotton scorch from recent winds. a bumper crop is anticipated. Atascosa County Fair officials plan several exhibits and aim to make this year’s fair one of the best ever. fair will be held in September. Band Boys Entertained After Practice at House Cafe

Floresville band members were surprised after Friday night practice when Director Fritz Teltschik and Manager Teltschik invited them to the House Cafe for an unexpected gathering. They moved to the cafe at 6 and found a planned surprise event awaiting them.

Rollins Teas Of Floresville Marries Marfa Young Lady

A surprise marriage took place in Marfa on Wednesday June 18 as Rollins Teas of Floresville wed Miss Roscille Aiden. The bride hails from a prominent Marfa family and recently graduated from Marfa High School. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs B W Teas of Floresville, grew up in Floresville, attended Marfa High, and worked this term at the Marfa Teachers College. The couple’s future plans are not detailed.

Six Cars Of Tomatoes Shipped From Yoakum

Yoakum Texas June 17. Eighty six cars of Yoakum grown tomatoes have been shipped from Yoakum this season though the crop is drawing to a close. Growers in this section expect continued shipments as prices hold and demand remains steady.
