Celebration At Sutherland Springs Fourth Of July

R W Kess, president of the Sutherland Springs Chamber of Commerce, announced plans for a July 4 celebration featuring an old fashioned basket picnic under oaks, a patriotic address, contests, swimming events, a bathing revue, baseball, music, fireworks, and a big evening dance at the Wilson county pleasure resort, with free admission and about 85 program numbers.

Good Roads Official Visits Kenedy Texas on June 27

W W M Fain secretary treasurer of South Texas Good Roads Association visited Kenedy to discuss association work extending from the Colorado River to the Rio Grande and Mason county to the Gulf of Mexico. The piece also urges farmers in Wilson County to optimize harvest marketing by feeding excess crops to livestock and using fertilizer, highlighting hog and beef cattle strategies and a potential Wilson County Fair exhibit.

July Fourth Celebration At Herman Sons Hall at Poth

An advertisement in the Chronicle-Journal promotes the July Fourth events at Herman Sons Hall in Poth. The main program starts at 1 p.m. with Floresville Band providing music, followed by various entertainments. A big supper begins at 5 p.m. featuring barbecued meats and trimmings for 50 and 35 cents. Teltschik's Orchestra of Floresville closes the day with a grand ball at night.

Floresville business houses will close all day next Wednesday July fourth following an annual custom. The town plans no special program, with residents celebrating in various ways across Floresville and nearby areas. People will attend county events, visit relatives, and travel to Path, Sutherland Springs, or other towns for celebrations.

Sheriff’s Son Breaks Arm In Truck Crank Accident

Burt Carnes Jr the son of Sheriff A B Carnes and wife broke his arm Monday morning when the Ford truck kicked back during cranking. A physician set the broken bone above the wrist and he may wear a sling for some time while recovering but was seen smiling afterward.

Revised postal rates cut private mail card to one cent

A mass revision to postal rates lowers several charges effective July 1 1928. Third class rates change with new two ounce to eight ounce tier and additional fees per ounce. Air mail becomes five cents for the first ounce and ten cents for each extra. Postcards stay at one cent each.

Norman Landay city marshal of Kenedy Texas was arrested and held without bond on a murder charge after a grand jury Indicted him for the death of BE B Bowen former night watchman slain at a Kenedy filling station Bowen was shot three times while seated in his chair as the case stemmed from events Saturday night and the grand jury was recalled to return the indictment
