A Monday evening meeting featured a substantial course served after remarks about the installation of officers and the ongoing project. Key attendees discussed plans for the year and arrangements for future events.
B V Houston continues to nurse a bad foot caused by a nail and hopes to be able to make the trip. The update notes the injury detail and the possible travel plan.
Ross Lawhon of North Little Rock Arkansas spent the weekend with Floresville relatives. Accompanied by Mrs Lawhon he visited his mother in Austin and friends in San Antonio. Lawhon, son of Luther A Lawhon, was raised in Floresville and Wilson County. He has been re elected to a second term and many friends praised his record.
The Lutheran Brotherhood of Poth hosted a large chicken and goat barbecue at the Nitschmann home near Poth. About 200 guests from the Poth and Floresville groups attended under a hackberry grove, with Aten and Gok performing a picnic style meal and a musical program in the afternoon.
The FYoresville Cemetery Association convened its regular meeting on June 8 1928 with Mrs Lee Matlock Sr acting for Mrs J T Houston. Members present included Mesdames Seale McDaniel Bynum Sutherland Price McDaniel Murray and Teas. Visitor Mrs Baker of Yoakum attended. Collectors reported 19.25 for May and June dues from Mrs A I Dennis 1.00 and Mrs Wil Rhode 8.00. After adjournment refreshments were served and the group planned to meet July in the home of Mrs Horace Ridout.
Floresville Chamber of Commerce held a large home products banquet at the White House Cafe last Tuesday. About 104 men, including farmers, bankers, lawyers, merchants, and reporters, attended a program celebrating Wilson County’s diversification progress with speeches by A W Grant, Sheehy, Furlong, and others. The event highlighted county gains in crops like peanuts and watermelons, poultry, beef cattle, and hogs, and urged continued cooperation across communities.
John Vaughn Blake Jr son of Dr J W Blake of this city received a B A degree from Vanderbilt University Nashville Tennessee during commence week June 11 13 He was in the senior class of the Academic Department and earned athletic letters in football and track after Floresville High School He plans to enter the medical department at Texas University Galveston this fall
Members of the Wilson County Dairy Association and visitors met at the fair grounds auditorium on Monday night. C H Belting of De Laval Cream Separator Co spoke about balanced feeding and milk marketing with praise for local dairy progress. County Agent Beck and others gave timely talks as businessmen attended the profitable gathering.
Foy Moody son of G Moody of Linton will preach at the Church of Christ here next Sunday morning at 11 o clock. He has studied at Abilene Christian College for two years.
A June bridal shower for Mrs. Chas. W. Neal nee Lasca Franklin was hosted by Mrs. J. T. Houston and others at the Houston home. Guests registered in the bride’s book while Mis s Bal lard directed. Misses Butler and McDaniel served. Favors of sweet peas were pinned on guests. entertainment featured Bo Peep and a haystack gift reveal. Merrill W. Smith noted en route to a South Texas poultry meeting, praising crops in his region.
A Houston telegraph report notes that if the Democratic nominee at the quadrennial convention in Houston wins the White House he would not be the first Texas born president, recalling that Sam Houston was elected president of the Republic of Texas nearly a century ago.
A Floresville school board meeting last Thursday night completed the faculty roster for the coming year with four new instructors named: Mrs. C. W. teacher, Stanley Coug of the Grammar School, Miss Harper, and Miss Thelma Lockman. Several existing staff members were listed, including principals and teachers, as the board expressed confidence in a strong faculty for the upcoming term.
County agents and staff including Beck Emil Ullmann John H Myers Ww Seale and Herman Backhaus attended a Field Day at the A M College Experiment Station. The event focused on agricultural demonstrations and cooperative extension outreach plans for the region.
H C Wells formerly of Encinal buys the McCracken place near Floresville from Mrs C A McCracken of San Antonio. The 68 acre property will become a model plant farm with about 10 acres of onions and cabbage planned. Wells and his wife moved in this week and expect extensive improvements.
Austin report says Governor Moody plans to begin his re election bid soon after the Democratic National Convention. He has not chosen a first address city, with Ross McKenzie noted as employed by a local oil company.
