Local Floresville society news hints at a forthcoming event led by S. Tom and coordinated by Red Cross volunteers under Bessie G. Houston. Details remain fragmentary but suggest a social gathering with community service ties in the near term.
A. J. Reinhard, a local farmer, praised sheriff and city detectives for tracing a stolen car. Sheriff Wright of Floresville joined San Antonio officers, leading to recovery in a mesquite thicket on Wednesday afternoon after a local man found the vehicle stripped of tires, tubes, curtains, and cushions. Reinhard returned home that evening. Mrs. Pennie Williams of Paris visits Mrs. C. A. Cone. Dr. Jones and Attorney Jas. King came from Stockdale on Monday.
Floresville Red Cross Society will hold a city market this Friday evening starting at 6 30 with goods for sale and a refreshment booth. A band concert will feature the event and all to be sold consists of good to eat.
A citywide Red Cross fundraiser in Floresville aims to raise 100 million nationwide with sales of foods and goods. The event at Court House Square features an W O W Band patriotic concert, elderly pledges, and cash donations. Three Mexican citizens were arrested for failure to register, with bond set at 300 dollars each and an examining trial scheduled.
The W C T U held its June session at the Methodist Church with Mrs. E D McDaniel presiding in the president s absence Mrs L B Wiseman. Attendance was small but a program was conducted and remarks made on ongoing efforts.
Elder C A Buchanan will preach at the Church of Christ Sunday during regular hours. He reports a very successful two week meeting in Charco with twelve new members. President Wilson proclaims Week of Recruiting to raise army to 300000, urging men aged 40 with no dependents to prepare for enlistment.
A special conference will be held at Marcelona Baptist Church on Saturday June 30 with all members urged to attend as important church business will be transacted. Visitors include M S Teague, Mrs Clyde Dorsey and baby of Kirksville Missouri, visiting Mrs J B Dibrell Jr.
A school for newly elected officers is held at the Masonic hall in Floresville Chapter No 160 R. The event provides instruction and governance guidance for local officials across the section of the state.
