Haywood McDaniel, a young Floresville figure, is praised as a pride of the town. He has been attending a national Y M C A workers meeting in Missouri since the end of the regular term.
The San Antonio aviation camp at Camp Kelley shows real business with daily flights to south Texas. A four-ship fleet flew over Floresville last Friday en route east and reportedly conducted an exhibition flight to Cuero. On Wednesday a lone aircraft passed overhead heading south at a lively pace.
State Senator Carlos Bee spoke in Wilson County Court House about enlisting for the Battery of Artillery in the Texas National Guard. Floresville W O W Band played patriotic airs as hundreds attended, with about 150 men standing. Recruits were signed up after the address, delivered via auto from Ru.
Three Mexican citizens from the county held on a charge of refusing to register were heard in San Antonio last Friday. After explaining their side, they were registered and then released. Sheriff W L Wright spent several days in San Antonio for eye treatment due to ongoing trouble with his right eye.
Wilson County mobilization pushes for about 75 more enlistees by midnight Saturday to form Battery D, Second Texas. County residents from Floresville, Stockdale, Pandora, Kosciusko, Fairview, Graytown volunteer, with mass meetings and rallies driving recruitment.
Floresville mourns as telegram from Dr J W Blake Rochester Minn confirms Mrs Ed Franklin died at Mayo Hospital early Thursday. Ill only a short time she was taken to San Antonio then Rochester for possible operation. Survived by Mrs Lee Allen Pearsall and Rhode brothers H W West Hiram J ton W W Rhode Sunnyside. Funeral set for Sunday at 5 in Floresville.
