Floresville Softball League Opens With Eight Teams

Floresville started its softball league last week with eight teams. Fans and players rallied to organize a summer recreation program at Tiger field on Floresville-Stockdale highway. Officers include Oscar Billimek president E L Wildman secretary and Frank Woolsey treasurer. Opening results show Catholics 3 Fire Department 3 a tie, Fairview 18 Vincent Studio 9, Lions Club 11 Sinclair 10, Fairview 13 Catholics 1. Games are Tuesday and Thursday nights. schedule on page 9.

Three Pulled From Rough Sea Off Rockport

Three Floresville men Charles Boening 62 Walter Guenther and Otto Pundt set out from Jolly Roger Club for a three mile trip to Lap Reef Bank. An overloaded skiff capsized in rough Copano Bay surf as they turned back. Rescues by L M Sifford A C Wolk and G D Burkett saved the trio.

Bell of Cuero files for State Senate seat in 18th District

Cuero June 16. Rep. John J. Bell of DeWitt county formally announced his candidacy for State Senator from the 18th District to replace the late Senator Mauritz of Canado. A special election may be set for August 23 by Gov Beauford Jester. Bell plans to visit all thirteen district counties and promote South Texas growth through agriculture livestock poultry and industry. He cites his House service including chairing the State Affairs Committee and aims to engage voters directly for guidance and support.

4-H Club Girls Attend District Encampment at Beeville

Lions Vets Faculty Barbecue Set for Floresville

Floresville Lions Club members and Veterans Vocational School heads in Wilson County stage a joint barbecue on the San Antonio River one mile southwest of Floresville tonight. Expected attendees include the entire Vet Vocational Schools faculty, county committee, school superintendents, VA personnel, and Lions Club members.

Floresville Scouts Head to Indian Creek Camp

Fourteen members of Floresville Scout Troop 114 departed Sunday for the Annual Boy Scout Camp of Alamo Area Council at Indian Creek Camp in Ingram Texas. Leaders Keith Matlock and Wilfred Richter led the group including R L Eschenburg John D Carr Ralph Jentsch Ross Frick Jimmie Russell Clifton Flieller Richard Hill Wright Billy Clay Bobby Matlock Carl Eschenburg Jr Bill Oxford and Daryell Love. First Baptist Church Names New Floresville Pastor

Rev. F. B. Williams of Richards Texas accepted the call from the First Baptist Church of Floresville after a unanimous vote. He announced his acceptance at prayer service, his family accompanying him. They plan to move to Floresville by July first to begin ministry.

West Coast Trip From Beeville Pair Heads West

Leave taking by Mr and Mrs R B Seale and Mr and Mrs W P Cook of Aransas Pass as they embark on a grand western tour. They will visit Carlsbad Cavern Grand Canyon Boulder Dam and California with relatives in Long Beach. Floresville Band Honors Mayor Wesley Seale In Corpus Christi

About 20 former Floresville residents living in Corpus Christi attended a Floresville High School Band concert at the American Legion club. The event honored Wesley Seale, a Floresville native and Floresville High graduate, with refreshments served afterward during Buccaneer Days.
