Drive Barbecue Fosters Community Year Campaign

The event drew 162 members including renewals and new enrollees for the year's program. A hearty barbecue with beans and camp coffee was served by Boyd Youngblood and helpers. The Reds defeated the Blues in a friendly outdoor meeting marked by fellowship and plans for future community activities. President E A Flier welcomed guests.

Cross Chapter Red Cross Annual Meeting Set in Wilson County

Wilson County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting in the district court room of the Wilson County courthouse on Monday June 30, 1947 at 4 oclock. Counties Offered Highway Funds

A new state wide policy would permit counties to obtain an extra 100000 dollars yearly for farm-to-market road work. Counties or road districts must supply right of way and 75 percent of construction costs. the state highway department will cover engineering and 25 percent of the construction cost.

Services To Be Held Today For Mrs Lohse

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 8 00 p m at the Murray Funeral Home for Mrs Della Tillie Lohse wife of Chas Lohse who died Wednesday night at the M and B Hospital in San Antonio after an illness of about three weeks An obituary will appear in next week's Chronicle Journal.

The Floresville City Council and Floresville Independent School District boards of equalization will meet at city hall to pass on the yearly tax renditions. They note rising operating costs due to materials and labor and state the tax rate has not been raised except for school improvement bonds. They urge public support and fair valuations.

Joe H Biery of Texas A and M College arrives to assume duties under County Agent W J M Biery replaces the recently transferred agent. Biery, raised in D H anis, son of Henry A and his wife, earned a BS in Agricultural Administration in 1946 with majors in Agricultural Economics and engaged in ROTC and campus clubs. He served 3% years in U S Infantry including overseas time and worked on highway construction. this marks his first Extension assignment in a county noted for developing strong agents.

Floresville Colored Rodeo Announces Big Juneteenth Celebration

The colored citizens of Floresville plan a major Juneteenth celebration next Thursday all day at the colored schoolhouse. A noon barbecue dinner follows a morning program, with rodeo events at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Organizer Mills imports bucking horses and Brahma bulls for the two main shows as contestants from nearby areas prepare to compete. A large out of town crowd is expected.

Victoria Advocate editor Morris Roberts announced Saturday his candidacy to fill the unexpired term of the late Senator Frederic Maurit. Governor Beauford Jester is expected to call a summer special election. Roberts previously served in the Senate from 1936 to 1940 and in the House representing the 70th district. He cited broad district support and his past Senate experience as his qualification.

Candle Lighting Honors Eastern Star Officers in Floresville

Floresville Chapter No. 271 Order of the Eastern Star held a Candle Lighting ceremony on May 27 honoring outgoing worthy matron Mrs. Alta Tackitt and worthy patron M. M. Hughes. Miss Lallah Warren served as Mistress of Ceremonies, with poetry, scriptures, songs, and gifts. Members presented corsages, gardens, and a guest book as the Masonic Hall featured pink roses and gladioli in decor.
