L W Freeman formerly of Pawnee Bee county was elected principal of the Floresville Independent School District Grammar School at a board meeting last Saturday night. He succeeds Stanley Coughran who resigned to take the Coughran principalship in Atascosa county. Freeman taught two years at Pawnee and years in Gorulla system, holds a degree, and resides near Waco with wife and son. They plan to move before the fall term.

Washington June 12 Vice President Garner refused an offer to earn 52000 a year in addition to his government salary. He was asked to speak once a week over the air for 1000 weekly but declined stating it was improper for a man in his position to discuss government or public affairs.

Rainfall in the region has benefited crops as Humble Oil and Refining Co reports No. 1 Hardy well on the B B Hardy farm eight miles northwest of Floresville has reached 631 feet. Drilling began recently and is now in rock with a large crew operating day and night. Derrick and drilling equipment have been completed, making a major test in the area.

The family had been in the Lower Valley visiting when his condition worsened on Sunday. Death attributed to spinal meningitis. he previously suffered a diphtheria spell in February.
