Homer E. Carrico of Dallas was named to succeed Myron F. Ward in the district. Ward moves to Corpus Christi. The territory covers ten counties and Wilson County reports 90 farmers borrowing $7,000.

Homer E. Carrico of Dallas is the new Field Inspector for the Crop Production Loan Office of the U S Department of Agriculture in this county. He met local committees and borrowers, succeeds Myron F. Ward, notes 90 Wilson County borrowers and about 7000 dollars loaned for seed and crop prep. He praises local cooperation and asks to be contacted for prompt service, with address in San Antonio and to leave word if unavailable.

Fire Department Makes Record Run Last Saturday Evening

A city fire alarm at 8 30 p m drew crowds as flames lit the sky but no water was needed. Firemen returned quietly after a rapid chestnut LaFrance run, ending with a calm scene on the Potomac and a hint that Chic Sales may receive a new plans order.

Veterans Bureau opens reforestation program to war veterans

From information furnished we learn that war veterans are now entitled to join the reforestation work. All applications must be made to the U. S. Veterans Bureau in San Antonio Texas. Sheriff A B Carnes is county chairman of the organization in Wilson county and interested persons should see him.

First Carload Of Melons Loaded From Here Monday Morning

Floresville loaded its first carload of melons Monday morning and by night the second car was loaded and ready to roll. Five carloads were loaded. shipments expected to grow daily next week. Melons are good quality with excellent flavor though size varies. Growers and King & Lorenz of Stockdale handled the first car. Rain two weeks ago saved the crop, but lateness and honeydew damage may reduce yield. A promising outlook if another rain arrives. Next Monday night Floresville Chapter 271 meets.

Cut Cotton Crop Only Way to Avoid Ruin Says Senators

Three Democratic senators from cotton states Smith Bankhead and Thomas urged cutting this year’s cotton crop to avert ruin. They seek a 200 million dollar bonus program under the industrial recovery public works bill to pay growers who retire portions of their crop. Administrators pledged a swift decision on any cotton program this year.

Local farmer Alex Pruski dies after long illness

Alex Pruski 31 a Kosciusko community farmer died Wednesday night May 31 at Oxford and Archer hospital after four years of illness and several operations following an automobile accident. Survived by widow, four children, mother Mrs R B Pruski, eight brothers and two sisters. Burial was Thursday at Kosciusko Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Father Benjamin Kaminski presiding.

92 Car Lot Delivers Over $50,000 To Hallettsville Farmers

Ninety two carloads of tomatoes departed Hallettsville Texas on June 5 enriching farmers with more than $50,000. Prices ranged from 6 12 cents to 1 1 2 cents per crate. Many planters met all obligations and still had money in the bank.

Mad Dog Bites Three From Floresville Headed to Pasteur Institute

Ben Greif of Floresville his daughter Medora and Ennis Whalen left for Austin to undergo Pasteur Institute treatment after a pet dog bit Greif and later a Black employee while the animal, which died Tuesday, was taken to the State Pasteur Institute on doctor advice. Authorities at the Pasteur Institute await further action.

Floresville Cubs defeated Gonzales Cardinals 5 to 4 on Sunday in Gonzales. Cruz pitched most of the game allowing 6 hits and fanning 6. Ray McDaniel is Killed in Boerne Auto Wreck

The Boerne rancher Ray McDaniel aged 36 died from a fractured skull after a two car collision on the Fredericksburg Road two miles northwest of Boerne. The other driver Radfield Simpson Jr 16 of San Antonio and passenger George Spencer 14 of Boerne survived with injuries. Burial plans and funeral arrangements were announced as the community grieves.
