A memorial service will be held Sunday at the school auditorium at 8 15 o clock. President E W Seale of A I College will deliver the address. Special musical numbers will be featured. The public is cordially invited.
Floresville hosts a memorial service Sunday at 8 15 p m in the high school auditorium with E B Seale president of Texas College of Arts and Industries Kingsville as principal speaker. The event, sponsored by Floresville Post 38 American Legion, invites all ex service members and requests church and group cooperation for a largely attended program.
In Del Rio Texas on May 81 a new high was reached in the wool market with Wool and Mohair Company quotes from 26 to 2734 per pound. A tragic incident in the local negro colony occurred Saturday afternoon when Mildred Kuykendall nine year old daughter of Walter Kuykendall and wife was accidentally killed by her six year old brother with a 22 caliber rifle the bullet entering the back of her head and killing her within minutes a funeral followed the next day.
Washington May 29 A 17 percent rise in farm prices the sharpest since the postwar boom of April 1919 was reported for April 15 to May 15 by statisticians of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Prices paid by farmers at local markets rose while farm goods prices held steady at prewar levels.
The 57th annual State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's convention will be in Corpus Christi from June 13 to 15. Texas chiefs and officials will lead talks on fire prevention with speakers including Raymond B. Mauk, George Goff, and J. O'Brien. Dallas and Ft Worth delegates are among those attending. sessions will be held in breezy, cool halls by the sea.
The Floresville Cubs defeated the Cometa Club of San Antonio 6 to 2 last Sunday afternoon before a good crowd, extending their season win streak to seven. They travel next Sunday to Gonzales to face the Gonzales Cardinals.

They renewed long held friendships during the stop.
Miss Lillian Raska and Herman Skarke were married Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. Rev. P P Zarb officiated with Herbert Skarke as best man and Elsie Raska maid of honor. A reception and dance followed at the bride’s parents home with Bill Riemenschneider orchestra. The couple planned a bridal trip to Victoria and Galveston.
Grammar school commencement exercises at Pom High School Auditorium drew a large crowd. Marilyn Reese gave the valedictory, Reginald Ammons delivered the salutatory, Rev W D Welburn of San Antonio spoke, and Judge 8 B Carr presented certificates to graduates including Sara Maryn Lieberman and many others.
A joint Texas Legislature committee reported that this session's appropriations total 42,716,683 if the governor signs off on miscellaneous claims, down from 53,559,510 in prior appropriations. Senator Walter C. Woodward noted many funds address deficiencies and the saving amounts to 10,742,827.
In Austin on May 30 the Texas House passed 82 to 31 a resolution urging the State Democratic Executive Committee to put a repeal question on the first Democratic primary ballot. If voters favor it, the repeal would await a future regular session two years hence. Rep. Weaver Moore of Houston introduced the measure, while a repeal amendment has previously been rejected by the House.
Representatives Richard M. Kleberg and Milton West filed a protest with the Civil Service Commission over the dismissal of 23 mounted inspectors in the Texas customs service. The action followed President Hoover’s executive order last year amid civil service reforms. The protest argues the dismissals violate established procedures and seeks reversal or reinstatement.

W L Sandlin superintendent of the new Farmers Market in San Antonio visited Floresville last Thursday. Farmers rented space, with trucks and farm produce fresh from growers, praising the market’s new plant and convenience. Floresville’s school year closed with a large commencement week, baccalaureate and graduation events drawing big crowds. Dr H Bascom Watts delivered the sermon, praising open minds and Christ as the ultimate source of joy.
Floresville Post No 38 American Legion members are urged to attend a monthly meeting at the courthouse next Tuesday night June 6. Topics include bonus certificates and other matters of interest to ex service men. Non members are welcome to attend.
In a May 29 1933 letter from Frank E Burkhalter chairman of the Department of Journalism rural journalism class notes the Floresville Chronicle Journal earned high marks. The class praised attractive layout clean printing wide news selection and proper credit to clipped material with bylines.
