Largest Senior Class Receives Record Commencement Crowd

Floresville High School honored its largest graduating class on Friday night May 26 1956 with over 1000 relatives and friends in attendance. The ceremony featured a large pink carnation centerpiece, maroon and gray gowns, and speeches by Rev Father John J. Gerbermann and salutatorian Albina Estrada. Awards included the Faculty Award and Balfour Key to Gladys Leena Flieller, with ten seniors earning scholarship medals and Ronald Kappelman receiving the Alice Kleberg Scholarship in Agriculture at Texas A&I College Kingsville.

Contract Let Highways 87 181 In Wilson County

A contract for 11.7 miles of construction on U S Highway 181 and state roads in Wilson County was awarded to J Carroll Weaver. The low bid was $79 226.99. Work includes flexible base shoulders paving and surfacing from Pandora east to the county line and from US 8 381 northwest of Floresville to FM 637 southeast of Floresville.

Farm Bill Increases Acreage Allotment Across States

The alumn bill clears Congress and raises the 1957 1968 cotton acreage allotment from 17.4 million acres to IRA led acres. Most extra acreage will go to small farmers with no state losing more than 1 percent of its allotment. The secretary of agriculture is required to sell surplus cotton for world market prices when offered for export.

Austin Texas May 26 a contract for the construction of bridge and approaches on Farm to Market Road 6536 in Wilson County was awarded this week. F M Davis district highway engineer San Antonio announced. Dean Ward Company submitted the low bid of 119801 27 on the project running from San Antonio River 1.2 miles west of US 181. Gene Koch Floresville resident engineer will be in charge of the project.
