Floresville sets the Peanut Festival for Friday and Saturday October 12 and 13. The high school graduation exercises occur tonight at 8:00 p.m. with 72 seniors to receive diplomas in a ceremony led by Attorney John Connally. The Baccalaureate service was held last Sunday with Rev. Freeman delivering the sermon and a large crowd attending.
The Wilson County Farm Bureau board met Thursday night May 17 at the assembly hall Farm Bureau Building. Directors Richardson Hierholzer Ray Svoboda Wright attended. Minutes and financial report approved. A Beeville district meeting May 25 will discuss changes to the Blue Cross plan. Queen contest discussed and approved. Miss Glag Meller to represent. Mrs Creegh to attend Waco secretary’s meeting June 19-20. Wright report praised bureau insurance activities. Next meeting June 21 Ladies Night at River Bridge Park with basket supper.
May 31 marks the final day parents may transfer children of school age between districts. Readers are advised to contact the focal or county superintendent to obtain transfer blanks and complete the process before the deadline.

Floresville High School announces a clothing clinic for adults beginning June 18. Classes cover sewing construction fittings and machine operation with guidance from Emily Goehring and Mrs. WS Millikin. Contact details and hours listed for interpreter and registration information.
The Floresville Lions Club awarded plaques on May 17 to Sunnyside and Camp Ranch community members Joseph Uhlig and Alex Richter for outstanding conservation farming. Wilson County Soil Conservation District also cited Myre Sam Fore Jr as best Non-Farmer Conservationist of 1955.
The Chamber Commerce board fixed dates for a large fall festival celebrating the peanut crop. Aiming for October 12 to 18 with October 13 as Homecoming Day, the plan invites 80 squad members and local lodges churches and schools to participate. Residents are urged to mark the calendar and assist with planning and community outreach.
The Texas Highway Department awarded bids totaling 6.48 million dollars for state highway and farm to market road construction. Wilson County received an early contract of 79,936 dollars for 381 and 7.114 miles of shoulder and paving from Pandora to Gonzales County line and Loop 181 to Parm 537, awarded to J. Carrol Weaver of Linton.
Reported in Wilson County and surrounding areas, new oil and gas test locations near Floresville and Sutherland Springs include 8,009 foot depth wells and several lease lines defined by southwest and southeast boundaries. Drilling activity centers on the Nixon-Path, Erskine Survey, and Joe Bailey holdings with multiple No. wells staked or ongoing, including Edith White and Agnes Bar Pons, as Annie Higgins advances surface work near the townsite. The Annie Higgins widow is tied to the Spindle Top era in prewar oil development.
County Agent announces Form 2240 for two cent per gallon federal tax refunds on fuel used in farm operations. Applications will be accepted between July 1 and September 30 each year, with refunds issued for gasoline used in farming during that period.
Banks will be closed all day Wednesday May 30 and Thursday May 31 for Memorial Day and again on Monday June 4 in observance of Jefferson day. The bank closures affect First City National Bank of Floresville and First National Bank of Poth.

Wilson County reports 891 dollars and 57 cents raised for the American Cancer Society drive despite drought. County Chairman Mrs J H Sheehy thanks contributors across wards including Floresville Bank Ward 189.00 and Sutherland Springs 100.00 with other gifts from Mmooresville and Lodi.
