The Town Board discussed granting a franchise to the Indianapolis & Chicago Air Line Traction Company. After consulting an attorney the proposed franchise was rewritten in many respects, but no action was taken due to the company’s absence. The revised franchise has been sent to the company for approval, with a possible final board decision at tonight�s meeting.
Flora of the Hudson-Beilharz Co presents Jane Hudson-Beilharz a contralto and instrumentist with N H Beilharz a character impersonator and musician. An admirer calls Noah Beilharz an original entertainer while noting his Kansas marriage to a singing partner. Indianapolis News lauds Jane Hudson-Beilharz as a fine contralto.
The first band concert of the season drew one of the town’s largest night crowds last night on the streets. Concerts will be held regularly every Thursday evening and residents are urged to bring friends to enjoy Flora’s citywide merriment.
Mr and Mrs A M Chittick express gratitude to friends neighbors physicians and nurse for kindness shown during their son Loren’s illness.
Town Treasurer Jesse V. Bright seeks $88.25 for collecting delinquent taxes, claiming a six percent fee that has been overlooked. He notes $1,470.86 in delinquent taxes collected during his tenure. Previous treasurers were J. W. Guthridge W. H. Lenon and R. R. Bright.
About forty Galveston Rebekahs attended in Young America on Friday May 12 to confer the Rebekah Degree on four candidates. Fourteen from Deer Creek and two from Komomo joined a total of around one hundred attendees with a Maggie Butler solo and Ethie Forgey recitation. After galveston’s hospitality Young America served an elaborate spread, and guests dispersed in the early morning, content with a night of appreciation.
A horse driven by Otto Gingrich Dunkard of Pyrment ran wild after a passing automobile on Ferry street near Third. It struck Reifer's furniture wagon near Jerry Connell's shop, throwing Gingrich and his 7-year-old son. Both injured. Dr. Winnedge treated them as the buggy suffered extensive damage.
United States postal officials inaugurate full rural delivery in Carroll County with 21 routes serving 2,500 households. Additional three routes from neighboring counties feed into Carroll, broadening access for rural residents.
The Flora town franchise granted to D. E. Miller to furnish electric lights expired after four months, leaving no plant. The town board now considers a town hall as the preferred project and may pursue other improvements depending on future actions.
New Insurance Co M. A. Ryan formerly of Delphi joins the board of directors of a newly perfected fraternal life insurance group in Indianapolis. The firm aims to balance rates between old line insurers and lower rate fraternal groups and plans statewide expansion. John W. Kern serves as president of the American Fraternal Insurance Co.
Jacob H. Flora longtime Flora resident died at his home Sunday evening from locomotor ataxia. A respected citizen and devoted father of nine, he was 65. Funeral services were held Wednesday with Elder Leedy officiating and burial in Flora cemetery.
Jesse McCarty is reported in critical condition at his brother Frank McCarty’s home in this city and death is imminent. The news saddens Flora where the young man has many warm friends.
Major John H. Burr of Delphi is named among the governor's staff, joining a list of majors. Burr previously served on Governor Durbin's staff as a major.
From JAKE BARNARD comes a notice of pasture space capable of housing 25 to 30 head of horses and cattle. The reader is directed to consider this available grazing area for livestock needs.
Flora eyes a new National Bank with 25000 capital in 250 shares of 100 each. Directors named E G Kitzmiller L T Hawkins W H Fuhrman Edward B Lehman John F Shoff L S Goslee and A W Blue with Kitzmiller chosen president. Each director has thousand-dollar investments and bank expected to open within two months. Flora already hosts two private banks in strong condition.
Mrs Martha Shaffer who runs a millinery store in Moss block over Reist & Co's seeks a divorce from James S Shaffer after fifteen years of marriage. She claims he grew quarrelsome five years ago and deserted her a year ago, leaving no support. He is a former Yeoman school principal now an insurance agent based in Delphi.
Albert Hughes completes county jail term and vows to reform after returning home to Flora. A Delphi birth reports a son for Mr. and Mrs. James C. Smock. The Juanita Glee club plans a Christian church program on Wednesday evening May 31. Roy Myer and wife of Rensselaer visit Roy’s parents in Delphi. Owasco postmaster job goes to Perry Cripe. father J. Cripe resigns. Loren Chittick recovers well from appendectomy. George S. Gordon, Delphi lumber dealer, dies at home. O. R. McCall resigns as Idaville Observer editor. Charles Foster assumes leadership.
Dr Robert Vernon of Walton attempted suicide by taking morphine in a personal crisis tied to a love affair. Friday night he sent for a girl to attend a local dance, she refused, later joined him at his office, and he collapsed in morphine stupor. Dr Vernon survived after antidote treatment.
The Rossville stock show has been scheduled for Saturday June 17 with liberal premiums for horses cattle hogs and sheep. Horse show features include premiums for single horses and match teams and top driving skills. The event promises varied amusements and expects a large exhibitor field following last year’s success.
Bert Flora left on Wednesday for his future home in Denver Colorado. During his life in this city Bert and his wife won hundreds of friends and we all regret their departure from our midst. A wish for health wealth and prosperity follows them.
Carroll County records list numbers for Te, Mate, Fem, and Tor across townships with Flora showing a 53 increase and Monroe a 44 decline. Deer Creek contains the county’s two colored children, while totals rise from 5780 to 5809 this year, reflecting shifts across Delphi Flora Washington Tippecanoe and other townships.
Camden Expositor notes Friday evening at the Wyatt home in Camden. Miss Bertha Campbell of Flora attended with Miss Lennie High to a reception honoring her, joined by about twenty four guests. Ruby Gardner won nail driving, Stella Gardner second. Ralph Lines won the needle threading contest. refreshments followed as guests departed pleased.
The town ship assessors must finish by May fifteenth and begin reporting on Monday at Auditor Engel's office to turn in assessor books and personal lists. Lists will be bound and handed to the county board of review meeting June fifth where dissatisfied taxpayers may register a protest. The board includes the county treasurer, auditor, assessor and two court-named members. The current year shows a higher total than last, crediting tax ferret Behm with improved listing of notes and mortgages.
