Death of Elizabeth VanGundy in Rockfield

Mrs Elizabeth VanGundy died at her Rockfield home on Tuesday morning at about 68. She belonged to the Methodist church and is survived by son Perry W Van Gundy and daughter Mrs Josie Parks. Funeral services were held at the M E church Thursday afternoon with Rev Beebee and Rev Howard officiating. Interment was in the I O O F cemetery.

Burlington Installs City Water Works and Piping Plan

Burlington plans a new water works plant behind the post office with a 65 foot stand pipe and three inch mains for fire protection and general use. Chas Hendrix buys the lot and will begin construction, citing successful examples in Russiaville and Galveston as proof.

Safe Cracked at Sedalia Jenkins and Stewart’s Elevator

Thieves blew open the Sedalia elevator safe at 2 10 AM on Tuesday and seized between 50 and 100 dollars. Dynamite destroyed the safe door and damaged the building. Tools used were found on the office floor. pieces of the lock flew 50 feet away and through a corn crib siding. The robbers fled by buggy. no identities have been learned. Sam Jenkins, senior partner, previously from Delphi, is named.

Burlington seeks twice daily mail from Cutler

The Burlington residents petitioned the postal department to have mail delivered from Cutler twice daily instead of once. An official notice announced bids for a Cutler carrier to start by April 17, with Burlington mail to be sorted at Cutler before delivery. Some confusion remains over routing as all Burlington mail appears to go to Cutler for sorting.

Governors Deneen and O Donnell face new \$500000 suit

Patrick O Donnell former Carroll county man and ex public administrator sues Governor Charles S Deneen of Illinois for 500000 claiming 250000 in fees fines and forfeitures were unlawfully kept during Deneens two terms. The suit follows a long feud amid prosecutions for jury bribing while O Donnell was with the Union Traction legal department.

A Modest Life Ended

David Heaston Maxwell died at the home of his granddaughter Mrs M L Arnot in Delphi at 7 o'clock Monday morning. Born July 7 1823 in Winchester Indiana he moved to this county at age 12 and lived in Delphi for 25 years. He was ill for two years and leaves a son Ben Maxwell a brother and two sisters. Funeral was held at 10 o'clock Wednesday with interment in Rockfield cemetery.
