Water carnival proves novel entertainment in Filer
An unusually large crowd gathered Saturday evening at Yakima avenue and Malin street for a water carnival announced in the Record. Volunteer fire department teams staged water polo and barrel contests using streams of water to move a barrel toward the opposing goal. The new fire engine mounted on Love corner supplied the pressure. Intermission raised 17.60 from spectators for the department fund. The finale featured a water fight between the same teams, a close endurance contest with streams of water and no injuries reported.

Opening Date Set for Community Schools This September
Schools in Filer and seven neighboring districts will open Tuesday September 5 with a few districts starting Monday September 4. Over the summer many district buildings received repairs including a new teacherage in Washington district and extensive improvements at the Rural high school. The agricultural department moved to the basement to create a study hall, heating and plaster work were completed, the football field refreshed, and grounds renovated. Superintendent Peck urges tuition students to apply now as preparations are underway for a record-breaking term with medical and dental volunteers offering free services to children.
