Kiwanis Urges Embargo Over California to Halt Foot and Mouth Disease

The Kiwanis club of Filer Idaho at a weekly luncheon adopted resolutions urging state officials to declare an embargo on California livestock and products to prevent spread of foot and mouth disease. George N. Tucker outlined the crisis and loss estimates, calling for stricter regulations and border disinfection. The club also supported local rest room and band projects and honored members with a president’s baton and readings by Ralph Love.

District Track Meet Here for 25 High Schools

District track meet set for May 2 at the local grounds with 25 high schools in competition. About 150 athletes expected as preliminaries start at 10 am and finals at 1 pm. three entries per event, one relay team per school. cash prizes and loving cups to top schools. Spalding rules govern events.

Musical Contest at Knull Church Draws 60 Pupils

A Saturday recital at Knull Baptist church featured 60 pupil participants from Filer Kaull Shoshone and Bubl in singing and breathing exercise contests. Virginia Lafine tied for first in one event with three other pupils, Sue Glen Bunce won another prize, Mrs. G. G. Victor claimed top junior prize, Magdalene Schaefer accompanied, and Marion Dwight sang a special piece.

State highways supervisor H W Gregory awarded a grading and paving contract for about 27 miles on the Old Oregon Trail between Has won and west of Hurley to C A Robinson of Twin Falls. Robinsons bid of 150165.95 came in about 26000 under engineers estimates and near the under bid by the next bidder. The Mothers club of the Poplar Bil district hosted a gathering at Mrs Ray Lees home with guests including several named ladies.

Railway to Wells Nevada to open bids and start work

Oregon Short Line moves to condemn land and proceed with Rogerson to Wells route. J H W Platt confirms bids will open and construction begin once right of way issues with Twin Falls committee are resolved. New line from Rogerson to Wells to aid agricultural and copper shipments to California.

Support for Coal Development Meeting in Twin Falls

An announced mass meeting is set for 2 pm Thursday in Parteh hall Twin Falls. HF Samuels of Teton Coal Company will discuss potential Teton Basin Idaho coal development to provide cheaper fuel. Samuels has filed with the state public utilities commission seeking Oregon Short Line track repairs and a reasonable intra state freight rate. Delegates will be elected to appear before the commission regarding the petition.
