Ferdinand pioneer Charles Knapp dies after liver trouble
Sad news spreads of the death of Charles Knapp aged pioneer of Ferdinand. He died at nine o'clock the previous evening after years of liver trouble. Born in Rhein-Beyerh Germany he came to the United States as a young man. He ran a blacksmith shop, then a hardware store, and was a cornetist in the Ferdinand brass band for 23 years. Survived by his wife, four daughters and two sons, with interment at St. Ferdinand cemetery after a requiem at St. Ferdinand church.

Ferdinand delegates to the St. Josephs Staats-Verband convention were honored on arrival home from Jasper. Henry Kemper Sr dies after paralysis at 74 in Louisville
Henry Kemper Sr a retired contracting painter died at his son’s Louisville home after a stroke. He was 74 and interred at St. Louis cemetery in Louisville. Victim of Tuberculosis Dies at St Henry
Fred Jochum, known in the community, died Sunday evening at his mother's home in St Henry after eleven weeks of pulmonary tuberculosis. He owned a saw mill and threshing business near St Henry and was aged 36 years 2 months 13 days. He belonged to St Eberhard's Benevolent Society and the Mariah Hill society. He leaves his aged mother Mrs Frid Jochem Sr and eight brothers. Interment was in St Henry cemetery Wednesday with Rev Father Meinrad Toelle officiating.

Marriage at St. Ferdinand church and local notices
Ben Schaeffer and Miss Frances Altmeyer wed at St. Ferdinand church on Tuesday at six in the morning. Attendants were Robert Altmeyer and Henry Schaeffer. The couple had breakfast at the Indiana Hotel then traveled to Troy for the day at his brother's home. Ben, son of the late Henry Schaeffer, runs a local coal mine. Frances is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Altmeyer. They will reside on the Altmeyer farm south of town. The NEWS offers best wishes. A St Meinrad minstrel show drew a fair crowd with College and Seminary students delivering strong performances and the Symphony Orchestra receiving praise for music. Fred W. Opel, a Hayeville area farmer, died in a delirium after leaping from the Anti-Narcotic Building third floor to the pavement in St. Louis at three o'clock Monday. His body was sent to Jasper and then home. he was 39. Arthur Miller and Miss Anna Dittmer of Huntingburg married Tuesday morning at seven in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Huntingburg. Picnic at Ferdinand church grounds attracts Louisville visitors
Preparations are underway for the annual Knights of St John picnic on the Ferdinand church grounds. An excursion is planned with the 8 ern and Ferdinand railroad advertised to run reach. Between 800 and 1000 people are expected on the seventh. More details may follow next week.

Farmers Fire Insurance annual meeting and local outing report
The Farmers Fire Insurance Company will hold its annual meeting at the home of William Helming at 2 p.m. John Laake is cashier. The outing at Hunley’s Creek included Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scott, Rens Heinacker, Ed Schaimier, Misses Mary and Maggie Schuhmaker, Emma Knust, and Cece Barth. They fished little but enjoyed beer and cake. AL Sy Heinacker bought a new Ford arriving Tuesday. The Ferdinand Brewing Co. ice plant began operations last week, to run until storage is filled. Joe Barth completed a brick walk in front of his residence. Mathias Olinger will give a tobacco prize to the person bringing the most. The household furniture of Henry Bogbinann was moved out. About 1000 people attended the Catholic Society Center event last Bundy.
