Judge Scott travels to Lincoln while many locals visit for fairs and trips. A steady stream of names visit Lincoln, Kansas City, Omaha, Holdredge, and Auburn for business, education, or family reasons, with several returning home or planning moves. The Republican caucuses convene tonight and church groups meet for social gatherings.
The opening match at Towle courts Monday had Burt Reavis and Ed Hayes defeating all challengers. Persistent rain postponed the finals but predictions favor Reavis and Hayes to win the Davies Cup.
Mrs G H Neal entertained the L B T club at her North Stone street home on a dismal Wednesday afternoon. Despite rain and mud the guests enjoyed an afternoon of unalloyed pleasure with very nice refreshments served.
Wim R Hoagland of Humboldt and Effie M Billings of Humboldt married by Judge Wilhite last Saturday. The bride is popular and the groom a prosperous young man. Also Harlan H Brown of Fortesque Missouri and Maud E Bush of Forest City Missouri wed by Judge Wilhite last Saturday. In Stella, Jesse Brisby and Abbie Green married on Monday with many friends offering congratulations.
P. S. Heacock of this city has bought the new Douglass mill and will run it in addition to his grain and coal business. The aim is to market high quality mill products and maintain efficiency since the mill is new and the finest in this region. The mill is a credit to the town and should receive citizen support.
W. T. Suavely a section laborer had his left hand crushed and amputated after being run over by a Burlington freight at Pierson's Point two miles east of town. Despite warnings he attempted to board the moving locomotive and fell beneath the wheels. He was treated by company surgeon Dr. Burchard and Dr. Fast. Joan Hasenyager of Verdon was in the city on business.
Gov. Mickey commutes life terms for Hubard Savery and Chas Broaden. Savery, once convicted of first degree murder for killing a man at a Humboldt grading camp, now faces ten years. Broaden, found guilty of second degree murder for a killing on the Island near Rule, had faced twenty three years and is praised for prison conduct. Local residents approve the action.
Missouri Pacific officials favor Straussville for a new division over Falls City due to the Freeling hill blocking a division site. J Russel and M P officials plan a conference with E H Towle to discuss location. Falls City residents may be asked to consider removing the hill or adjusting depots if the division settles in town.
An accident occurred when a sim carriage returning from Steele cemetery after Will Jenne's funeral lost its neck yoke. Mrs. C TY Burchard jumped out, suffering painful bruises, while Mrs. D W Lowles and Mrs. Mason endured minor shocks as the driver regained control.
Roy Farmer was fined five dollars and costs after being found to drive faster than ten miles per hour in the first case under the new auto speed limit law. The ruling was delivered by Judge Moran Saturday of last week.
The Falls City Sabetha Sycamore Springs and Southwestern railway moves from plan to surveying stage with subscriptions already covering preliminary work. Promoters including EB Maust and J L Slocum of Falls City and W J Bird of Topeka express strong intent to build a standard gauge steam line from Falls City to Sabetha via Sycamore Springs with Topeka as the objective, promising public benefit and ongoing updates.
Emma Kelly aged sixteen years eight months and eighteen days died at her parents home near Salem. She was converted February 8, 1903, and lived a devout Christian life. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Salem performed by Elder J Cronenberger.
Mrs Fox mother of Mrs T L Hemmelreich suffered a fall with a painful injury to her right limb and has been confined to bed since the accident.
William Nye Jenne died at his parents home after several weeks of typhoid fever at age 24 years 4 months and Y days. Born in Sabetha Kansas on April 3 1881 he grew up in this city attending public school and graduating in 1900. He studied at the state university before a health decline ended his college work. A traveling salesman for a New York firm at his death he was a cornet soloist in the Harnack Military Band and a pianist. He belonged to Masonic and Elk lodges and was admired for moral character and friendship. Funeral services were held at the family home with Rev. Griffin and interment at Steele cemetery.
Resolutions by Falla City Lodge No 9 A P & AM acknowledge the death of William N Jeane on September 2 in Palla City. The lodge commends his Masonry and character, vows to honor his memory, drape the lodge room in mourning, and have copies spread in the records and city papers. The Kings Pharmacy has been sold to Dr. Moore of Cozad Nebraska. Henry King the retiring proprietor will move with his family to Omaha Virginia where he has bought a pharmacy. Falls City residents regret the departure but wish the King family happiness and prosperity in their new home. Dr Moore will be welcomed and his business venture in Falls City is hoped for with success.
