Coney Island Observes Silent Tribute for Elmer Dundy

Coney Island paused for half an hour yesterday to honor Elmer Dundy founder of Luna Park. At 4 pm his body moved from the Moravian cemetery vault in Staten Island to a new vault, causing all business to halt as visitors fell silent.

Jeptha Dunn of Barada Dies in Lincoln at 74

Jeptha Dunn, a Barada resident in Richardson County for nearly twenty years, died in Lincoln on Sunday April 2 1907 after a period of illness. He leaves a widow and two children and was interred at Barada with Rev Teeter officiating.

Union Tabernacle Meeting Postponed for Falls City

The Falls City union revival meet ing with evangelist Oliver shifts from May 12 to June 2 due to his success in East Liverpool Ohio. A second tabernacle has been built in a suburb as meetings continue with over 1000 converts reported. This campaign aims to advertise Falls City’s merits.

Band Concert at Gehling Theatre Next Wednesday

The Gehling theatre will host a band concert with special numbers including vocal solos by Mrs. Geo Wahl and Edna Crook, a violin duet by Alice Cleaver and Anita Wilson, a drum solo by John Holt Jr, and a vocal by Helen Martin. Additional numbers may be added. A Stouffer spent Sunday with family at Salem.

Obituary: Edward McWain Dies At 40 In Rule Nebraska

Edward McWain of Rule Nebraska born in New York state died at his home April 24 1907 aged 40 years 6 months and 18 days after a year and a half of illness. He leaves a wife five children and an aged mother. Funeral held at home Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Arkman preaching.

Shorthorn Cattle Sale At Levi Hitchcock Farm

Levi Hitchcock held a Shorthorn cattle sale at his home seven miles northwest of town on Friday April 26 selling 34 head for 3346.50. Twenty three cows averaged 114.02 and eleven bulls averaged 65.82 with Blanche selling for 265 to Henry Kuper Humboldt. Buyers came from across the county and Fairbury with a town dinner served by Mrs. Hitchcock. The event boosted Hitchcock’s reputation and Richardson county as a fine stock area.

Community urged to donate on Main Street Friday and Saturday

The notice asks readers if they have contributed to the Chinese Famine Relief fund and invites support in Falls City on Friday and Saturday via local ladies collecting on Main Street as other communities donate generously.

Society News Highlights of Local Gatherings and Parties

Mrs. Kate Shock was surprised at a neighborhood gathering Tuesday night. Thursday’s whist party hosted by Mrs. William A. Crook awarded Bert Whitaker a plate and Orville Schoenheit a cup and saucer. The Kensington Presbyterian group met with Mrs. C. N. Allison for needlework and games. Falcon hosts honored the class of 1907 with red and white decor and a two course supper. The E. A. Needle club met at Miss Ida Hilgenfield’s for sewing. May 8 is the next date. St Martha’s Guild tea raised about 12.50 for receipts. Miss Ethel Cade hosted music and games with refresh ments. Kaffee Klauteh will meet Miss Slocum this afternoon. Mrs. J. R. Wilhite hosted a dinner for Mrs. Jesse Crook’s 77th birthday with family and friends. Kensington society guests visited Mesdames Bobrer, Shorts, McMillan and Harvey at Mrs. Bobrer’s home.

Park Work Underway As Elm Trees Planted

Workmen begin operations on a new park with elm trees planted and drives and walks planned. Nebraska towns like Fairbury have purchased park sites in spring and citizens plant shade trees on Arbor Day. Falls City expects blue grass carpet and completed walks.

Gage county board of supervisors met in Beatrice to award the annual bridge contract. John A. Crook and the Lyons, Jr. appeared for the Gilligan company, while John Martin distributed copies of his paper opposing the firm. Gilligan lost the contract. The Journal defends its stance as taxpayer friendly and denies personal malice.

The I O O F lodge in Falls City marked its eighty eighth anniversary at Bodes hall on Friday evening April 26. A program featured addresses songs solos and a dance with supper served by members and about two hundred guests including visitors from county lodges amid praise for a successful event.
