Robert McMahan fell from a hay wagon Friday evening when he alighted on a horse. The accident caused the team to bolt, breaking his collar bone and leaving him badly bruised. He is recovering but will miss work for some time.
The W R C supper at their hall on Tuesday evening drew a good crowd and provided abundant food. Coffee donated by the Price Killers is acknowledged, and the event helped reduce the building debt with a healthy profit.
Charley Foehlinger moves his family from McCook Nebraska to Falls City and, with his brother Harry, purchases the Goldman grocery store in the south part of town. The business will operate under the name Foehlinger Bros. The Farmers Institute is set for February 5 6 7 and 8 with organizers urging strong community support after a well received event last year.
John Soley of Cleveland who murdered his sweetheart nearly faced execution after the warden prepared the case for death. The governor had commuted the sentence to life imprisonment and a commutation paper was reportedly mailed to the warden but a held letter later confirmed the order.
Mrs Lorinda Jane Wisdom aged 55 died at her home four miles south of Salem on December 15. Born June 11, 1852 she married James Wisdom May 7, 1870 and had thirteen children, eleven present at her death. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p m conducted by Rev C A Mastin with Salem quartet. interment Salem cemetery.
The Kaffee Klatch club guests Misses Hutchins this evening. Mrs Fred Keller hosted the Married Ladies Wensing ton club yesterday with needle work and refreshments. Prof and Mrs Barrett entertained Business College students last night with refreshments. Highlanders plan a dance on the 26th with limited invites and an Hiawatha orchestra. Serosis and Mrs Geo Schack hosted a Civil Service paper and discussion, with Mrs Schack’s poem Women pioneers in Education recited. Club adjourns to meet Mrs M Giannini January ...
Christmas Eve at St Thomas Church features a midnight service starting at 12 o'clock with candle illumination, a ten minute sermon by the rector, a special offering, and new vestments for the choir. The program includes Adeste Fideles Kyrie Gloria and Gratias. Joe Palmer remains gravely ill with slim chance of recovery.
Induction of Rev. R. Cooper Bailey Ph D at First Presbyterian Church featured floral decorations and a well prepared program. Rev W H Kearns preached on witnessing and the sermon highlighted personal faith and faithful testimony as essential to ministry. The ceremony included formal charges to pastor and people, a cordial welcome, and predictions of a prosperous tenure.
The Ellighton case ended with a second degree murder verdict after about six hours of jury deliberation. Judge Raper then sentenced Ellington to 16 years in the penitentiary.
The winter amusement program has been canceled by the lecture bureau. This was necessary owing to the great distance of the dates in this locality. The cancellation is a disappointment to our people, especially those who worked hard to organize the event.
