Iowa Central Road to Build Over 100 Bridges This Year

Des Moines March 25 The Iowa Central railroad announced over 100 bridges will be rebuilt or repaired this year with more than $100,000 spent on repairs and construction. The new bridges will be wooden and pile supported, with the largest project described as imminent.

Defense recalls Doyle in Portland mining suit

In Council Bluffs Iowa on March 24 the defense recalled plaintiff James Doyle and pressed a date from earlier testimony. Doyle claimed an April 1806 event tied to his brother's injury while the defense sought November 1895 as the brother’s death date, which Doyle could not recall.

Longtime Iowa legislator Ed C. Russell dies in Clarinda

Corning Iowa March 24 Hon Ed C Russell of Corning died at Clarinda hospital aged years He served three terms in the Iowa State Legislature representing this county and founded the local newspapers He was born 1841 in Louisville Kentucky served as a Civil War sergeant and later practiced law while editing papers He leaves a wife and three children with funeral services held by the Masonic fraternity.

Editors widen scope of action in Iowa press association

Des Moines reports that the Southwestern Iowa Press Association votes to rename as the Southern Iowa Press Association expanding its territory south of the Rock Island railroad. Next convention set for Oskaloosa in October with invitations from Lamoni. officers elected include G. C. McCormick president O. E. Hull secretary and F. C. Clark vice president. L. S. Robinson resigns as president.

Accident leaves Missouri Valley worker leg amputated

Eric Weander a section hand, attempted to crawl under a freight train but it backed up before he reached the other side. The wheels passed over his left leg and surgeons at Gasson hospital amputated below the knee. He was about 60 years old.

Great Western to Build New Rail Line Across Iowa

Announcement claims the Great Western will construct a line from Arispe Iowa through Creston Greenfield and Guthrie Center to Carroll and on to Sioux City The survey is said complete with terminals and much of the right of way secured between Arispe and Carroll The route aims to tap Sioux City business and northwest grain and livestock, shifting traffic from Chicago to Kansas City for 1906 completion plans

Girl Wins $5400 Verdict in Seduction Case

In Jefferson Iowa a district court verdict awarded Miss Nellie Brenner $5400 against T J Nugent after a four day trial with many witnesses. The plaintiff sought $7200 and received three quarters of that amount. Brenner testified by deposition as she could not appear in court, a move the defense challenged. Judge Powers overruled the objection and an appeal to the Supreme Court seems likely.
