Pratts Bound for State Prison After Convictions
Seven prisoners were shackled together and escorted to Anamosa State Penitentiary by the county sheriff and three deputies in Manchester Iowa. Cornelius Pratt and his sons Jasper and Chas Pratt were sentenced to a year and a half for breaking into Jones Woolen Mills and stealing blankets. Wm and John Werb received one year each for related gang activity. Brundage and Kearney, jailed for breaking into the Milwaukee depot in Delaware and stealing a gum machine, got one and a half years and nine months respectively.

Whipped Boy Takes Life Near Albia Iowa
Clarence Shockley a 15 year old son of Curtis Shockley of a prominent Albia area farm committed suicide after anger over a punishment. He used a musket arranged on a stick to shoot himself in the breast, dying instantly. The coroner's inquest disclosed the act occurred Tuesday afternoon following the father's punishment. The tragedy occurred seven miles southeast of Albia on the Blakesburg road.
