July 8 Round Prairie reports quiet after Independence Day with crowds at Rome and Glasgow. Visitors include Mrs. E. B. Carter of Letts Iowa visiting sister Mrs. Belle Hutton. Eliza Smith to spend weeks with family. Gus Peterson family recover from a runaway team incident. one daughter injured her ankle. Community awaits mower and binder season. oats and hay outlook favorable.
The Perlee community spent the Fourth at Rubeo Fairfield and in fields. Ira Westenhaver hosted a small picnic. Mr and Mrs Minister visited J O Lambert over Sunday. Anthony Kasmarch lost a colt cut by a mower. Clover harvest is underway with rye and wheat nearing harvest. M O Watts and family visited J J Watts Sunday evening.
July 8 report lists local residents and events. Perry Hickenbottom lost a thumb and finger to a cannon firecracker. Mrs Bernard and Mrs Selma Johnson are among the ill and bereaved. Mrs Johnson flew to Nebraska to see sister Mrs Fred Schoeringer who fell steps and died. M Damm was in Chicago with cattle. John Samuelson family staying with his father Charles Darble and family. George Rizer hosted Dudley visitors. David Peterson and sister Ella visited Centerville.
Miss Jennie Edmund visits Ottumwa for a few days while neighbors travel to nearby towns. Clive Ramey spends Sunday with Callie McChesney south of town. Effel Ramey and Nettie Downey visit L. O. Sheridan family in Ioka. Frank Johnsons visit Burlington friends. Barngrover family spends days with friends in Fremont. Robert Walker family travel to Nebraska. Mabel Everett returns from Longhory store stay. Mrs. Stockton plans westward visit to Colorado and beyond. C L Pyke to return soon with photo car. friends welcome him back. Wilson Pringle and Fairfield visit Lloyd Mitchell family southwest of town.
Farmers spent the forenoon plowing corn and the afternoon enjoying ice cream and firecrackers. Neighbors attended gatherings at J. W. Wilson and Fairfield. Visiting relatives included Loy of Illinois with Samuel Berchtold, and the Salts family with others in Batavia and Richland.
Charles Cox visits the Beswick family near Fairfield. Hillsboro and Ottumwa visitors are noted. Millspaugh hosts festivity week. Stockport’s lone hardware store remains after T H Hundeby ships stock to Beardsley Minnesota. Wells returns home to Louisville Colorado. Workman paints his house and barn. Mott moves to Oldt property and Yearington rents his former home.
