Temperance Union Meeting Friday at Baptist Church

The Woman s Christian Temperance Union plans a Friday public victory and thanksgiving meeting at the Baptist church celebrating constitutional prohibition. Afternoon talks include J H Huglin on the Constitution and Prof Garrett on the 18th Amendment, with several speakers and a playlet. Mrs L S McGuire, known as Sarah O Brien, is recovering from an operation in Rochester Minnesota.

Memorial diploma planned for all soldier dead

A bulletin from American Legion Headquarters Indianapolis announces memorial diplomas for relatives of all men who died in service, regardless of where death occurred. Jefferson County lists 27 deaths, 3 percent of its mobilized men, and encourages new memberships at 3 dollars yearly including a Legion Weekly subscription.

Latta's Hog Sale Draws Big Crowd at Latta Yard

A large crowd attended J. H. Latta's hog sale last Monday. Some hogs brought strong prices while others did not. The current hog market conditions appear to keep farmers from buying as eagerly as in the past.

Fairfield Educator Wins Recognition for Bible Class Work

The Continent notes Dr. Vahan H. Vartanian of Parsons College Fairfield Iowa as the driving force behind a growing Bible study movement. Starting with 115 in 1917 the Fairfield Extension Bible class expanded to 125 in 1918 and inspired similarly structured courses in Mt. Pleasant Eldon and nearby communities reaching hundreds of high school and community participants.

Fairfield Retail Merchants hear fire protection needs

Rev William McCoy spoke of Ireland and Europe after three years in naval service in World War I. He noted Ireland’s prosperity and England’s shortages, criticized the U S Senate for not ratifying peace, and described wartime deprivations and currency depreciation. Local firefighters urged a light chemical truck costing about $3,000 to back up the big unit.
