Marie Burgess daughter of Mr and Mrs Gus Burgess married Samuel Shafer at the parsonage of Rev Buscher in Sperry on December 24. The groom, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Jacob Shafer of near Fairfield, served a year overseas with the 139th infantry of the 35th division. The bride, a night operator at Mutual Telephone in Mediapolis, will reside with the groom on his Fairfield area farm after January 1.

A. J. Coulee longtime city resident died at his Tamapa Florida home after a brief illness. Funeral plans not final as of press time, remains expected to arrive today. Funeral services for Harry Beatty, who died at Jefferson County hospital after a short illness, were held yesterday at 2 30 p m from the family residence on South Court street. Survived by his wife two children Guyland and Katherine his mother Mrs Sarah Beatty and two parents. He was buried in Evergreen cemetery.

Fire guts Mayor Fulton home after afternoon blaze
Last Friday around 2 30 pm a fire destroyed the upper floors of Mayor C J Fulton’s brick residence. Firefighters could not control the flames before the library and furniture were saved, while the exterior walls remained standing. Mr and Mrs Fulton were occupying the home at the time.

Martha Louise Rawson Marsh, born 1845 in East Alstead New Hampshire, widow of A F Marsh long time Congregational pastor in Fairfield, died after a prolonged illness at West Stone street home last Friday. Survived by two sons Rollin J and Walter K and two daughters Mrs W W Mendenhall and Mrs A R Smith. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the residence led by Dr W E Parsons.

Wedding of Miss Mary Chidester and Harry Crow
On Wednesday evening December 31 at the bride’s parents home on West Washington street the wedding of Miss Mary Chidester and Harry Crow took place. Rev. R H Polly officiated using the ring ceremony. The bride wore pearl charmeuse with iridescent trim and a red and white rosebud corsage. A two course luncheon followed in the dining room. Mrs Crow is the daughter of Frank and Mrs Chidester, educated at Fairfield High School and Parsons College, and has been a primary teacher locally. Mr Crow is son of W H Crow of Eldon and a junior member of Mohr Crow clothing firm. The Tribune offers congratulations.
