The Q seed corn special comes to Jefferson County at 3:00 PM today drawing many farmers. Lecturers from agricultural college will discuss testing and selecting reliable seed after county tests show seed is often poor. Stops at all county stations offer guidance on securing quality seed and preventing poor stands.
Mrs. P. I. Labaugh returned home after a Chicago visit. Mrs. Oscar Swanson of Des Moines arrived for a few days with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John Fry of Libertyville visited relatives Tuesday and plan to move to Oakland California. Mrs. A. W. McElhany returned from an extended Kansas visit.
Mrs Roy Hatton of Ft Wayne Ind arrives for a visit with her mother Mrs F J Demarsh on W Broadway. Mrs Richard Swanson of Libertyville attends a Shower at C E Ward's Tuesday night for Mr and Mrs Ben Loosborrough. J T Bates plans to return home in Tehamah Nebru after a pleasant stay with relatives.
Chas Messer prominent farmer northeast of Salina died suddenly Sunday evening after a period of illness. He leaves wife, two sons Ralph and Robert at home, and two daughters Mrs Schaffer near Brighton and Mrs Randall Green near Salina. Funeral from Lower Richwood church this morning with interment nearby. Rev. W A Wolgemuth in charge. The Messer family long-time residents widely known in the area.
Inter-society event at Library Hall drew a large crowd as Miss Lucile Wisecarver won first in the declamatory contest with Miss Nellie Benson second. The debate on graduate income tax with a 5 000 dollar exemption favored the negative.
Miss Edna Bates and Ben Loofbourrow married at the Bates home with about fifty relatives attending. Rev C E Ward officiated noon ceremony on March 27. Couple received guests then dined, gifts included silverware and china, and they plan to move to Sacramento California next week.
Ola Yost, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Yost, Libertyville, shot himself in the abdomen Sunday night on the Rock Island track near town. His body was found Monday morning a quarter mile from the shot site, inquest led by Coroner Gaumer returned a verdict of death by his own hand. funeral set for 2:30 PM at the Presbyterian church with interment at Fell Cemetery.
The local National Guard unit, Company M, was inspected Friday night by Capt. Robt. McCleave of the 2nd U. S. Infantry. He praised the drill, noted their armory as exemplary, and awarded an Excellent rating, the highest possible. He said the company approached the perfection of regulars and led or near the top among state units.
The funeral for Mrs. W. B. Campbell was held at her home Sunday at 2 30 p m with Prof Gage in charge. Interment followed in Evergreen cemetery. The death occurred Monday of last week.

Miss Glendora Green, Maple Grove teacher, was sick Wednesday and her brother Oscar and his wife from New Mexico filled in. Mrs. Homer Miller visited her ailing mother Mrs. Whitmore Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper spent Saturday evening with Mrs. Charley Johnson, Ira McPherson visited Lon Barr over Sunday. Miss Glendora Green spent Thursday.

Raymond McPherson sustained two leg fractures when a colt slipped on the pavement and fell on him Friday night. He had a prior similar injury less than a year ago, with the same leg affected and a fracture near the knee. Fern Miller was present as his pupil.
