Yesterday marked the Jefferson County deputy sheriff Charles O. Carter and wife’s wedding anniversary. About 35 relatives arrived at their North Third Street home with dinner baskets for a morning surprise, followed by a second visit from nearly 40 young guests at 8. They entertained with games and stories, and Ward presented the couple a rocker as a keepsake.

Freight Wreck Delays Rock Island Trains Near Cedar Bridge
An east bound freight wreck four miles south of the city near Cedar bridge at 5 30 PM. A broken brake beam caused eight box cars and two tank cars to derail over twenty five rods of track. Wrecking crews from Washington and Eldon repaired the line in hours. No injuries reported to crew members.
