Weimers Prosper in Sioux County Nebraska 1907

M D K Weimer of Harrison Nebraska writes from Sioux County settlers’ life on 1600 acres six miles southwest of Harrison. they report fences houses wells and water, crops of wheat oats barley rye corn and potatoes with yields 20 to 40 bushels per acre and 50 to 70 cents per bushel selling locally. they describe droughts, weather, grass fed cattle, carload shipments, and work at Douglas Wyoming and Harrison. rattlesnakes and coyotes remain pests as they settle into new home.

Jesse Mulkins Dead in Local Death

Jesse Mulkins died Sunday evening at his home after a long illness. He was 47, leaving a wife and five children, two sisters and three brothers, and others in Rupert Idaho. A member of Jefferson Lodge No. 410, his funeral plans are expected to be handled by the lodge members.

Miss Eesie Green resigns as cashier and book keeper at J. Thorne's dry goods store. She left this morning for Des Moines where she has accepted a similar position.

Mad dog terror hits Fairfield city in biting spree

A mad dog roamed Fairfield biting at least one person and injuring several dogs before Harvey Nelson killed the animal near East Washington Street. Mayor James Das ordered all dogs chained or muzzled until further notice as Mr. Ross receives medical care and the head is sent to Iowa City for examination.

Caldwell Divorce Granted in Ottumwa Iowa

Judge D M Anderson awarded Ellie Caldwell a divorce in Ottumwa Iowa on Saturday. Custody of four year old William is shared equally between mother and Herbert Caldwell. Costs are split evenly. No disparaging evidence was offered. The dispute centered on alimony and shared custody rather than fault.

Won Prize at Chicago for Best Corn by Iowa Farmer

Acifferson county men claimed the honors for raising the best corn in the United States. H A Mdimund near Packwood sent ten ears of fine speckled corn to the Chicago National Corn Show where judges awarded the prize of 850 to Mr Edmunds of Jefferson county Iowa.

Tragic Bernhart Trainside Death of Amboy Man David Peare

The body of 65 year old David Peare of Amboy Ind was found beside the Burlington track at Bernhart Sunday morning. He had multiple injuries including a crushed right arm and shoulder and facial lacerations suggesting instantaneous death. A bundle of clothes hat cane and several photographs were found near the body and 31.60 was in his clothing.

Eastern Star Session Set for Burlington Meeting

Plans for the thirteenth annual Eastern Star session open in Burlington tomorrow with a large attendance expected.
