The Parsons College program announces commencement events centered in the new Barhydt Chapel. The baccalaureate on June 11 moves from the church, with 29 graduates, 12 men and 17 women. Activities begin June 19 with the library steps sing-out, a June 13 play An American Citizen, and literary society reunions for classes 06 and 1.

Bethel A M E church members organize a concert company to raise money for a parsonage. A concert is set for Friday June 9 at the Methodist church followed by Rally Day on Sunday June 11. The pastor Rev Bess asks city churches to take a special offering toward a goal of two hundred fifty dollars, potentially five hundred.
J. T. Davies of Davies Furniture Company Fairfield is chosen as one of five delegates to the National Funeral Directors Association convention in Atlantic City New Jersey this September. The Iowa state meeting in Des Moines elected five delegates including Charles Longfersweiler, C H Gregoire, Will Pursell and A E McAuley. The association now has 384 members.
The May festival by the Young Womens Christian Association at Parsons college campus drew several hundred attendees. Blanche Sawtell was crowned May Queen, escorted by Thalia Glee club members, with Miss Virginia McKenzie carrying the wreath. The program featured a Maypole dance and a tableau “An Old Sweetheart of Mine,” with music by the Fairfield band and praise from faculty and students.
A full car load of groceries arrives for the Jefferson County Co operative association and the store opens for business in the room north of the Iowa state bank. Stock purchased from Burt Zaiser company of Burlington. Manager L. W. Howard brings long grocery experience to the venture.
Mrs Anna Sandquist died Saturday morning at her daughter's home on West Broad Way. Funeral conducted Monday afternoon at 2 30 o'clock at the residence by Rev Thomas Osborn. Interment in Evergreen cemetery. Survived by daughters Mrs Johnson and Miss Josphine Sandquist.
Reverend W G Burch preached his farewell at the Christain church in Fairfield and plans to depart soon. He has served three years, was popular with members and friends, and resignation came despite efforts to keep him. He indicated a likely new call within days and the church will seek a successor promptly.
The closing days of Chautauqua will be big with talks by Ex Senator Lafe Young on August 24 and Senator W Sr Kenyon on the final day. Both figures are expected to draw large crowds amid Iowa political interest and anticipation of a future Senate primary clash.
Observance by Gethsemane Commandery included a Sunday service in the Masonic Hall and a procession to Evergreen Cemetery where fourteen graves were decorated with flowers. Eminent Commander Henry E. Snider supervised as the Fairfield Band led the march and music. Names of the decorated include Hastings Booker McCord Hoffman Jewett Templeton Wells Shaffer Brown Liblin Thompson Lewis Giage and Gage. It marked the first local observance with plans for an annual event.
Parsons collected fifteen complete circuits on the diamond against Central as Alumni Field hosted a mainly error filled exhibition. The game remained scoreless until the final inning when Central finally broke Boies’ center field shutout with a single tally.

Burglars broke into the Maddox and Maxwell grocerySunday night via a west alley basement door damaged to admit entry. They used the elevator to reach the first floor and rifled the cash drawer leaving $1.05 in change. The safe showed tampering and the back door was left unbolted. police are investigating.
