March County History and Endeavor District Notes
Jefferson County history for March 1906 records a colder month with poor roads prompting highway reforms led by a new Good Roads group under J. P Manatrey as president and J. L Knight secretary. Rural mail delivery expands after April 2 with Fairfield hosting eight routes and others statewide. The month also notes several serious railway accidents near Lockridge, losses and later deaths, plus obituaries of local figures including Mrs. A. H. Hibbard. The Christian Endeavor district met at Mt. Pleasant May 4–6 1906 with Fairfield representatives and elected officers for 1907 including J. A. Huglin as president and J. Rice Bell as vice president. Keokuk will host next year’s convention with plans for Mississippi River tours. Fairfield is urged to send delegates and seek to host in 1908.
