The Window Glausa Manufactories say the glass trade is prostrated. If no improvement appears, factories will shut down January 1 until stocks lessen. Also reports show wage cuts and plant closures across textile and woolen mills in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, with strikes and reduced pay among workers in several towns.
Fire events report across multiple towns including Loogootee Indiana where eleven buildings burned, Democret office and post office among losses near 200000 with insurance 150000. Other blazes include Lock Seventeen store dwelling of C Wolf destroyed, Weston woolen shoddy factory fire, Lindsay Ontario freight sheds fire with unknown cause, and Peter Dunn store blaze near hixemamron with charred remains found after search. Estimated total losses substantial with numerous jobs affected.
An Augusta Maine report says Gabriel Labell, an inmate of the Soldiers Home, vanished five years ago while with an unknown man and had recently received pension money. A gravesite with charred remains was found in the woods, and deputies believe Labell was murdered and robbed. A sister lives in Montreal. A clemency petition on Oscar Blaney, convicted of murdering Thomas Barrows, has been sent to the Governor and Council.
