Fires devastate Fairburg rolling mill and several shops

Telegraph reports a large fire in Fairburg DL destroying Walton Bros stores, a mill, a gallery, and other businesses. Loss about 350000 with partial insurance. fire controlled by morning. Additional blazes include a blast furnace stock house in Joliet and a drift chamber fire in Smamoxty. Case notes accompany strange homicide and a cyclone in Hancock County but no lives lost.

Amendment to Rule 6 of New York Supreme Court

An amendment to Rule 6 of the Supreme Court General Term Rules is noted. It specifies that when an appeal in a criminal case is policed for a day other than the first day of the term under Chapter 384 of the laws of 1854, a note of issue must be served on the Clerk at least five days before the noticed day to be placed on the Day Calendar. Also reported is a Pittsburgh exposition building meeting in October planning a stock corporation of $250,000, expandable to half a million, to erect and maintain an exposition building. a committee is arranging the incorporation.

Burglar Shot by Partner in St Louis Division Fight

Henry Brown of Colorado fatally wounds fellow burglar John Knox during a dispute over stolen property. In a scuffle Knox tried to strike Brown, who fired a pistol, striking Knox in the left lung and escaping. Knox is dying from his wounds.

October 14 Quebec reports two blasts at Parliament House causing broken windows and structural damage. A wall section and the corner stone were damaged. injuries were light to none.
