Memories of Maude and childhood by the sea
A reflective poem recalls childhood by a sea, a lost wife named Maude, and vows once whispered beneath a shaded cliff. The speaker mourns growing old, cherishes past joys, and envisions the wife welcoming him at heaven’s gate. Interspersed are ad snippets from local merchants and a clothing store notice.

Monday's Mysterious Sounds Reported Across Cities
The Onslaver noted a mysterious sound like cannon fire heard in the city and Fredonia yesterday afternoon. Fredonia said a vessel in distress fired cannons, but the distance from the lake weakens that claim. Local light-house keeper RK Taggart surmised the noises were echoes from a salute to troops, a theory that fits the westward origin and northwest wind.

Callahan case spurs demand for swift police action
Last night a letter from M Callahan sister of W T Callahan confirms he remains in the city and a warrant for his arrest has been active since last Wednesday. The city police are urged to perform their duty promptly, with public patience wearing thin. The letter claims Callahan acted in self defense when he shot and threatens a conversation with Mr Treusch if innocent. If he won t stand before a justice to affidavit the public may doubt his account. A sharp contrast is drawn with local bottling works promoting English Hop ale and other remedies, including Dr Pierce s Favorite Prescription, offered through local sellers.
