Sipple Case Upheld by New Jersey Supreme Court
The New Jersey Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling in the William J. Sipple telegraph fraud case. Sipple, a young operator, attempted to swindle Erie Railway of about 45000 by seizing control of stations west of the tunnel, directing trains, and staging a fake robbery to deliver money to a detective. Convicted, he faced five years in state prison. after fourteen months in county jail awaiting appeal, he must now begin the term.
