Grass trials at Agricultural Experiments Station Geneva NY
After taking possession of the station we planted grasses and tested several varieties. Orchard grass showed tufting and strong early growth, Foxtail seed matured late but produced good forage, and Rescue Grass yielded a large second growth. Tail Fescue proved dense and productive for pasture. Meadow Foxtail bloomed earliest and offered good early forage with strong winter survival. The report discusses root systems, plant crowding, and the need for diverse root depths to optimize pasture mixtures.
