James Nutt Declared Sane and Freed from Custody

Young James Nutt was brought before Judge Stowe and physicians in Pittsburgh yesterday for sanity examination. Doctors testified he is perfectly sane, and the judge discharged him. He received an ovation en route to Major Brown's office, where family and friends awaited. a reception was planned on arrival home in Uniontown.

Mystery of Amelia Olsen Brutal Murder Unfolds

Chicago police reveal new details in the death of Amelia Olsen, a young seamstress found on the prairie outside the city. Six more arrests added after initial suspect Thomas Sheehan, including a hackman, Italian restaurant keeper, a woman, and three others as accessories. A Wisconsin-sourced sailor, Martin Jacobson, linked as a rejected suitor, is also involved. Postmortem suggests repeated outrages and death by strangulation after being drugged and driven from the restaurant.

Bloody Affray in Wood County Pool Hall Tragedy

In a six oclock incident at Cotbys saloon near the depot in a small town south of the city Frank Fairbanks and Edward Manahan fought over a dispute during a pool game. Fairbanks fatally stabbed Manahan thirty three times with a large blade pocketknife, the heart area receiving a severe wound. Manahan, badly wounded, was taken home to Hulls Prairie in critical condition and later died. Fairbanks, held at Bowling Green jail, denies having a knife.

Mississippi River Convention Aims to Push Navigation Plan

Washington Jan 28 reports that a large convention is being organized to persuade Congress to improve the Mississippi and tributaries. Delegates from states and cities will attend. a St. Louis representative at Ebbet House handles correspondence and arrangements. The effort seeks significant river navigation funding and wider awareness among lawmakers. The issue of railroad land forfeitures and other naval and pension matters also dominate discussions in Congress.
