Tax Receiver announces to Dunkirk inhabitants that a warrant for collection of taxes has been received and is to be executed in the city. The notice names the official and outlines the levy process and authority for tax collection.
Telegraph reports in Porrsvirtz on January 19 that thirty two mines in the Schuylkill coal region employ over 12,000 workers. Many suspensions are temporary with married men favored for available work while single men, including in Indiany mines and Reading Company pits, face unemployment and distress.

A four story detached ward at Eastern Wing Hospital for the Insane burned early Sunday. Forty five inmates were inside, many unable to evacuate. Attendants and staff risked their lives to rescue patients as flames spread from a furnace. fourteen patients confirmed dead with several missing. Coroner's inquest cites past requests for protection funds as a factor in the tragedy.
Five Kiowa Indians were found frozen to death late Friday near old Camp Angus in Indian Territory about forty miles northwest of Wichita Falls. Freighters reported the group huddled under a bank with two whisky-emptied quilt bags nearby, suggesting they were hunting for game on a route to Wichita Falls for supplies. The deaths reflect the distressed condition of reservations despite government aid.
United States Trust Company acting through Stewart and Boardman has filed suit to foreclose the first mortgage on the West Shore Railroad for 50 million dollars. A judge ordered a supplemental complaint to include five to six hundred lienholders. Mary O Goean of Seventh Avenue New York was reported burned in an incident described in the same filing.
