Randall visit to Nashville and Polk widow reception

Samuel J Randall and party arrived by train at eight o'clock with a citizen escort from Louisville. General William Jackson welcomed him at the depot. The group toured Maxwell House for breakfast then visited Mrs. James K. Polk at Vine Street. A public reception at the Maxwell House ran from two to four p.m. with many citizens paying respects.

Archibishop Bourget said to be dying in Montreal

The Dominion reports Archbishop Bourget of Montreal is near death following last rites administered by Bishop Fabre. He is the oldest American bishop famed for opposing Guibord's burial.
