Amid Redfield Ashton and Frankfort factions over 1880 county seat records, armed men seized the Ashton records, were met by a court order, and withdrew after a clash. Countywide panic, suspended business, and threats of renewed attacks followed.
Sir John Macdonald, Premier of Canada, arrives in Ottawa to a cabinet greeting. A Liberal Conservative address is read, and a motorcade follows to his residence. Also notes the Almanac for 1885 predicting a moist period and mild winter, plus Canadian Pacific terminus at Coal Narber Harbor and terminal facilities planned.
In Maryville Missouri a mob of about sixty masked men dragged Charles F. Stevens from the county jail and hanged him on a bridge after he shot Oubert Kremer. Sheriff Anderson and Deputy Jack Anderson resisted but were overpowered. Stevens had been convicted of second degree murder in 1880 and pardoned after a brief term in prison.

James Cook the gang leader confessed to Pine Bluff train robbery, naming Clifford Adolph Parker and Kline as conspirators. Parker and the other suspect were taken into custody. Kline reported captured in Garland County. The youths, all residents of Pine Bluff, include a sixteen year old son of a local furniture dealer. Police recovered most of the stolen property and money.
