Youthful South Dakota entries from Vermilion Brookings Centerville Flandreau Hetland Lake Preston Madison Sioux Falls Watertown and Yankton will compete in the High School Athletic Association tennis tournament draws Friday and Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The 86 hole golf event begins Saturday at 30 a.m with defending champion Donald McNutt Huron and third-place finisher Stafford Steen Brookings back in the field.

Hazel Producers Win Hog Honors at State Fair
Hazel producers win multiple top awards in the Poland China division at the State Fair with Emil Mischke & Sons of Hazel collecting most prizes. Grand champion sow and boar and junior champions were all Mischke owned. Day County Trio Wins Stock Judging Contest in 4-H Event
Day County trio led by Bach and Schmidt topped the annual 4-H livestock judging contest with 3341 points. Lake County finished second with 2250 and Lincoln County took third at 2229. Hollis Williams of Lake County won individual honors by one point over Clifford Iverson of O Neill. Dale Gage of Lincoln County was close in third, with Waybright of Jerauld second and Hecken lively of Clay tied for fourth.
Huron Cow Wins 1939 State Fair Milking Derby in SD
Huron dairyman Hoss Oviatt owned the winning cow in the state fair milking derby at the South Dakota fairgrounds. The top cow yielded skim milk and butterfat valued at 2.81, beating G. C. Lampe whose cow produced 2.74 in value. Lampe’s second cow was third, Oviatt’s second fourth, as judges tallied per cow with multiple breeds. A separate note from Kansas City reports Fred Witherow in Knox County owns a hairless mare that recently foaled a dermal mule colt.
