The fragment, found 12 feet deep in a sandstone pit near Sioux Falls, suggests numerous mastodon remains in the area. Curator W. H. Over notes more finds around Sioux Falls than in most regions, attributing it to excavation or glacier action, and urges gravel and sand dealers to help gather information on these prehistoric mammals.
