Still Leading Farming State
South Dakota remains a leading agricultural state with high per capita wealth, ranking third in the nation behind New York and California. A report by W J Allen cites farm value, wool production, dairy income, and low farm costs, noting drought years did not erase gains and dairy and poultry sectors boost earnings. The piece highlights widespread wealth, strong farm machinery investment, and consistent outperformance of neighbors in agriculture despite adversity.
