Legion Officers To Be Installed At October Meeting

William Reaves American Legion post plans its October meeting with installation of newly elected officers led by Dr. R A Stratton who becomes captain after a September vote. John I Snyder ends a one year term tonight. Special entertainment and lunch follow the installation in the Legion’s new basement clubrooms at the National Bank of South Dakota building at 8 o clock.

Beadle County election meetings move toward final county vote

Community election sessions spread across six townships gather momentum as Beadle County organizers plan meetings tonight and through the week. County results from Tuesday list chairs and delegates for each township, leading to the county election at the Beadle County Courthouse in Huron on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Sioux Falls Oct 5 F L Boyington a member of the federal alcohol tax force stood out as the top marksman among South Dakota law officers. He posted the high aggregate score in the annual pistol shoot by the South Dakota Sheriffs and Police Officers Association, beating Patrolman W J Dean of Sioux Falls by one point. Boyington replaces Earl Pellant Huran a deputy game warden who won in 1937.

Tax distribution set at 4.15 per pupil in SD

Pierre Oct 5 J F Hinselman South Dakota state superintendent announced a distribution of 796000 to school districts from retail sales and net income taxes. The 4.15 per pupil figure is based on an enrollment of 191840. This compares with 3.80 per pupil in 1937.

State Highway Commission Seeks Bids on 745000 in Projects

Pierre Oct 5 11 The state highway commission has called bids Oct 25 on 1B construction projects costing about 745 000. Work includes 81 miles of base laying on U S 77 in Brookings Mooringsind Grant counties and 5 miles of grading on U S 77 south of Beresford.

Pow Wow Day at Huron College Features Parade Game Dance

Homecoming events at Huron College include a girls hockey game and a grand parade through the city. Chief Warrior John Badheart Bull and Miss Jeannette Jones lead as Big Chief and Pow Wow Princess while William Hirage serves as president and Big Chief. An alumni dinner and an all Indian orchestra cap the day’s festivities. The main football game pits Huron Scalpers against Augustana at Alamons Field with a 2 p.m. kickoff, followed by a speed race of model T Fords during halftime.
